I am filled with so much gratitude this morning! Check out my feature in @archdigest for @getclever where you can learn more about my passion for antiques and Black ephemera.

It was such a pleasure working with @jay_nailah who wrote such a beautiful article and @kevinmiyazaki who took these amazing photos and was such a warm soul. Also @cozy.spice who found my shop and collection worth sharing and put this all together. Y’all are the BEST.

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT — I am so excited to share that I’ve had the honor of contributing to an incredible project alongside remarkable Black artists, dealers, and collectors. ‘BLK MKT Vintage: Reclaiming Objects and Curiosities That Tell Black Stories’ by the visionary duo Jannah and Kiyanna of @blkmktvintage is more than a book—it’s a journey through the heart of Black collecting, reclaiming, and conserving.

Conversing with Jannah and Kianna, sharing my story, and delving into the vulnerabilities and revelations that came with it was an enlightening experience. This book is a love letter to our heritage and a must-read for anyone looking to understand the depth of reclaiming Black history, objects, and ephemera.

The book is available for pre-order and comes out October 15th 2024! 🥹🫶🏾❤️

A 147-year-old horror story, and it’s not about ghosts.

I found this old Harper’s Weekly newspaper dated Saturday, October 18, 1879.

What stuck out to me was the artwork pointing out the hypocrisy of a country that celebrates liberty, democracy, and sovereignty while allowing those very principles to be destroyed through racial violence and voter intimidation.

This is why I collect. History often repeats itself and it’s important that we are aware of our past to ensure a future based on the values we promote.

The @librarycongress has an original copy in their collection, and thanks to the Milwaukee County Historical Society (@mkehistory) and their book sale, I do too.

A recap of the letter-writing workshop I hosted at @thepfisterhotel ✒️

Attendees didn’t just view my collection… they got to touch and explore it: traveling lap desks with hidden compartments, mechanical dip pens, letters dating back to the 1850s, and so much more.

I loved seeing people bring their own fountain pens and ephemera to share. It’s proof that the art of letter writing (and the love of a good fountain pen) is alive and well in Milwaukee.

Tag your friends below so we can connect with more stationery and writing enthusiasts!

And lastly… should I host another writing workshop…? Hmmm.

I spent an afternoon looking through @thepfisterhotel-related ephemera at the Milwaukee County Historical Society (@mkehistory).

Michael Barera, Assistant Archivist & Digitization Specialist, was extremely helpful and made the process so smooth. Prior to my arrival, Michael pulled a bunch of materials for me to look through. Booking an appointment was easy and I was able to have the items I wanted scanned and sent to my email.

A quick note to the curious on why gloves were used at times and others not: I was only asked to wear them for photos. For the ephemera itself, I went bare handed, which is actually the current standard in most archives. Gloves create a barrier between your skin and the paper, and that loss of feel leads to more damage, not less. Clean, dry hands give you better control.

I can’t wait to share more on what I found!

Shop update THIS Thursday 10/3 featuring antique writing selections.

I’ve been collecting antique cigar cases as a pretty way to store my pens. This one will be available in the shop later this week 🕊️

My fascination with writing instruments didn’t start with the pens… it started with the line.

I’d get lost in old letters and diaries, studying the handwriting: the taper at the end of a stroke, the pressure and release throughout every word. I wanted my own handwriting to look like that, so I started collecting the instruments that made it possible and practiced.

A few weeks ago I was browsing the ephemera in the curio cabinets on the Pfister’s mezzanine and started wondering what guests and staff here might have actually written with, from the hotel’s opening in 1893 through the turn of the century into the 1920s.

That question sent me back into my own collection. In this video, you’ll see three writing instruments a guest or staff member at the Pfister could plausibly have used in that era. Full story on the blog, link in bio.

This is my portable little world, and it’s probably seen more of the world than I have. Inside it holds my @thepfisterhotel stationery, stamps, and pencils, along with a few little trinkets that ground me and make me feel at home wherever I am.

Should I post a full tour of what’s inside? by @everthineantiques

Watch me style this dress that makes me feel like a CUTIE PATOOTIE! + A quick update about me 🙂‍↕️

Firstly, this dress is by the talented @alli.marye. I bought it whilst under PMDD duress (iykyk) but I don’t regret it because… WOW!

It reminds me of those vintage 50s-60s play suits and I adore it. The little shorts come with too! I got a size xs and it fits perfect!

Update on me:
Phew… it’s been a journey. For those who know me you know the past couple years I’ve been in transition and have made a lot of changes, lots of growth, mental health struggles, and just life stuff. I am feeling like myself again and I am feeling better about being on here and perceived and all that comes with social media and running a business where I am the face of it. It’s still a big struggle of mine that I am trying to overcome but I am taking baby steps.

Thank you everyone who has been following along on @thepfisterstoryteller account. It’s been such an amazing experience already and I can’t wait to share more with you all.

In the meantime keep rockin’ with me as I come back feeling more like the old me with a dash of new and improved.

Thanks as always for your support. You all are truly the best community and I’m thankful to have you here.

xx Megan
