A little ode to our little Cortona studio… (bare with me, I don’t do things like this)

As we approach these final warm weeks of July I wanted to share one of my favorite places abroad…

Even though having 8am class all summer hasn’t been ideal when I’ve also been spending all of my money and trying to see all of the world…. and I haven’t necessarily been in love with the prompt for our class - I’ve tried to pour love and intention into this project to create a space I’m proud of.

Our studio didn’t look like much at first - just long white walls, quiet corners, and old tile floors. But slowly, it’s become something more. Now it’s full of sketch paper on the ground, half open cabinets, & mod podge bottles stuck shut. Every week we tape up our work and it sits there watching us through our processes each day. There is a somewhat strange beauty to the perfect mess.

The 3 cats that live outside nap in the cozy sun. The windows creak open to the Tuscan hills, and every so often you can hear the city bells drifting in on the breeze.

During class, the room is buzzing with laughter and drama from the past weekend in yet another country, with people moving around and creating. We throw on some olivia dean and try to get at least something done for the day…

But my favorite moments are when it’s quiet - when I’m here alone. That’s when I get to really feel the space, the architecture, the stillness, the way the paper flutters in the wind from the fan, the chipped plaster & the soft shadows.

Life in Italy isn’t always easy or convenient like we think of life in America, and it’s definitely not the dreamy version you see on everyone’s main Instagram. Obviously yes - it’s beautiful and inspiring and I’m so grateful to be here - but it’s also hot, a little tiring, and full of moments that test your patience and make you miss home. Amid all that, the studio has been kind of like an anchor - a familiar space where we return to every day (and are required to lol) and where things feel a little more steady.

It really is such special place and I will never forget it.. and one day, just maybe, we will be back to see our legacy left under one of the loose tiles.. 🤫 by @everydayemmag

Time based media assignment!! I haven’t had too many interior design classes this semester because I will be doing my studio IV class in Italy but here is one assignment we were working on! 3ds max rendering that I did to replicate one of kit kemps designs! I built all of the furniture out of modifiers and splines😆which was fun, but also took a while! Love it tho! by @everydayemmag
