POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’ve been in the lab for nearly a year, teaching myself to build apps as a new form of my creative expression. After downloading and playing with every art app I could find, I decided to make my own, bringing in everything I’ve learned along the way, plus many discoveries from my collage art workshops. Eventually I gave myself a deadline, my birthday on October 10, or I’d be lost forever in a vortex of infinite tweaking and noodling. So if you have an iPad and love making art, Quickdraw might be the one for you. Sign up to be notified the moment it launches:

Video postcard of the fountain at Leimert Park Plaza.
When I’m out getting my steps in, this fountain at Leimert Park Plaza is my halfway point. Whenever I see it, I know I’m halfway home.

For a while now my art’s been mixed in with my film work, apps, and everything else I post. That’s not really working for me anymore. I’m making more art than I have in a long time and want a place that’s just that: new art drops, mixtapes, live workshops, and studio work.
So I made @michaelvargas.art. Posting this here too because if you’re here for the art, that’s where it’s going.
Follow @michaelvargas.art if that’s your thing.
Thank you ✌️❤️

That’s what my upcoming workshop looks like in motion. A blank sheet of paper. A pair of scissors. Twenty minutes later, a face is staring back at you.

Join me at Lucky Cat Gallery in Downtown LA on September 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Bring a partner or come solo, either way you’re building something from nothing but colored paper, scissors, and glue.

There’s no sketching first, no “getting it right.” You cut a shape and let the piece tell you what it needs next. That’s the whole process, and it’s exactly as fun as it looks in the video above.

All skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. Everything’s provided, and you’ll leave with your piece framed by our crew.

Spaces are limited. Reserve your spot.

Video postcard of the final minutes of sunshine setting over the shores of Korčula, Croatia.

Back in 2017, I took a magical trip to Croatia with the family (mucho love to @kevinbkay @goldtipped @idelish) and witnessed some beautiful moments like this.
