For many the word #Iraq is synonymous with war and violence. Every Iraqi family has suffered from the devastation of airstrikes and violence. Be it a lost loved one, a destroyed home or the impermissible forced displacement.

For this reason the scenes from Gaza run deep in the hearts of Iraqis worldwide and messages of solidarity are unwavering. Iraqis have for decades shown they side with justice for #Palestine.

The struggle for justice is deep rooted within Iraqi culture. Each year millions descend on #Karbala, the location of the photos, to commemorate the death of Imam Hussain. A man who is revered for standing up to the face of a tyrant for the sake of justice against oppression and sacrifice all.

It is befitting that a group of Iraqi youth stood at the foot of his shrine to form a map of Palestine. In the map, the names of the innocent children that have died in Israel’s onslaught against Gaza. In large, the Quranic verse is, “For what sin has she been killed?”

Indeed, for what have these poor lost souls have paid the ultimate price for? These children are left without help.

One of Imam Hussain’s last lines before his demise feels apt:

“Is there any supporter who will support us?”

بالنسبة للكثيرين أصبحت كلمة #العراق مرتبطة بالحرب والعنف ليس هناك عائلة عراقية لم تعاني من تدمير الضربات الجوية الأجنبية والعنف إما فقدان أحد الأحباء أو دمرت منزل أو التهجير القسري

ومن هنا تعتبر المشاهد من غزة عميقة في قلوب العراقيين حول العالم، ورسائل تضامنهم لم تتزعزع من البداية على مر العقود أظهر العراقيون أنهم يقفون إلى جانب العدالة لصالح فلسطين.

النضال من أجل العدالة جذوره عميقة في ثقافة العراق ينزل ملايين كل عام إلى #كربلاء الموقع الذي التُقطت فيه الصور أعلاه، لإحياء ذكرى وفاة الإمام الحسين إنه رجل يُكرم لثبوته أمام وجه الطاغية من أجل العدالة ضد الظلم وكان على استعداد لتقديم كل شيء.

مناسب أن يقف مجموعة من شباب العراق عند قدم ضريح الإمام الحسين لإنشاء خريطة فلسطين. في الخريطة مكتوبة أسماء الأطفال الأبرياء الذين لقوا حتفهم في هجمات إسرائيل على غزة وبحجم كبير، مكتوب آية قرآنية: "بأي ذنب قتلت"

فعلاً، ما هو الجرم الذي دفع بهؤلاء الأرواح الضائعة الفقيرة ثمنًا باهظًا؟
إحدى عبارات الإمام الحسين قبل وفاته تنطبق مع اليوم:
