Hi, I’m Sammi 👋🏼

I’ve been on Instagram for far too long but never actually introduced myself properly (I’m giving myself the ick writing this!)

I’m a solo home owner, mum of two, living in Northamptonshire and slowly turning my house into a home, one room (and one DIY project) at a time.

I’m a bit obsessed with interiors and love a neutral, cosy home, but I’m also very much doing this around a full time job, children and normal life.

My house is definitely still a work in progress. Some rooms are finished, some are very much not, and where I can I’m trying to find ways to make things look better without spending a fortune.

So if you’re into realistic home renovations, budget-friendly ideas, questionable DIY attempts, cosy interiors and a home that is nowhere near finished… welcome 🤍

If you’re new here, say hi and tell me a little bit about you too! by @everyh0me

Watch me ruin my brand new table 😉 Anybody else spend months deciding on a purchase only for it to finally arrive and not look as you pictured? This was me with my @cotswoldco side table, I loved the shape but the wood was too pale. Two coats of @frenchicpaint browning wax later (something I’ve never used before) and this was the end result! #frenchic #cotswoldcompany #furnitureupcycle #livingroomdecor #homedetails by @everyh0me

It’s amazing how a few little touches can completely transform a space 🤍 A bit of texture and a new light giving cosy vibes and making it feel even more like home - especially when it was very, very green before!

One of the things on my never ending kitchen makeover was to get a new blind for this window, as the perfect fit blinds I had didn’t actually fit (it’s a long story!). Finally found a reasonably priced one I liked and thought I could put it up myself. Turns out waiting for the drill battery to charge fully and following the instructions would have made it easier… but I got there in the end! Dodgy socks and questionable DIY skills are my own, the blind itself is from @dunelmuk 🤍 by @everyh0me

I know autumn decorating isn’t for everyone… and honestly, I do get it. There’s only so many weeks before we’re talking Christmas again!

But I do love adding a few little seasonal touches to the house, without going completely overboard. So when I saw this gorgeous hydrangea wreath in @homesense_ukie over the weekend I couldn’t resist.

I love coming home to all the pinks and purples, it feels very me 💜💗

Are you an autumn decorating person or do you just leave the house as it is until Christmas? by @everyh0me

Why did I make my box room even smaller? 😂

When I was looking for a 3 bed house, finding one where all three bedrooms were a decent size felt almost impossible, so I knew I’d have to get creative with the space we had.

The box room had an awkward bulkhead that was basically just taking up space, despite the cushion on it before, so I decided to build a cupboard over it and make use of all that otherwise wasted space.

It wasn’t the cheapest solution as I needed a carpenter, but it’s so been worth the investment - it hides SO much stuff! I’ve technically made the room smaller, but gained a whole lot of useful storage and made the space work so much harder.

It can be really easy to think everybody has huge homes, but not all of us do! So sometimes it’s not about having more space, it’s about making better use of the space you have 🤍 by @everyh0me

A belated birthday day out with my mum, but obviously I couldn’t resist making it slightly homeware-related…

We spent the day at the Emma Bridgewater factory, seeing how everything is made, decorating our own (harder than it looks - check out the concentration face!) and having a look around the shops.

Seeing the actual process behind things you have in your makes you appreciate them so much more - especially when there’s a generational love for them too.

Would recommend to anybody as we had the best day… and yes, I may have come home with something… 👀

The kitchen makeover has definitely been a case of working with what I already had, rather than ripping everything out and starting again.

So, how did I save money?

I kept the original layout, replaced the doors rather than the whole kitchen and looked for cheaper alternatives where I could. The splashback is one of those things, I couldn’t tile so I’ve gone for stick-on tiles instead and honestly, I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out.

I’ve also kept the existing worktop and I’m planning to sand and re-oil it rather than replace it, which is still on the to-do list - I will get to it eventually!

It’s not quite finished yet. I still need to finish the worktop and at some point I’d like to add a blind, a windowsill and a kitchen-friendly rug… is there such a thing?

But this is exactly why I wanted to share it. You really don’t always need a whole new kitchen to make a space feel completely different.

Any kitchen rug recommendations appreciated! But in the meantime thoughts are welcome… what project do I tackle next? Final touches to the living room, adding whimsy to the girls room or starting my bedroom? by @everyh0me

You lot voted for subway tiles… so subway tiles it was! Well… sort of 😂

I can’t tile, had bad luck with tradespeople AND I’m really impatient so I’ve gone for stick-on tiles instead and honestly, I’m really impressed with them!

I’m trying to do this kitchen makeover on as much of a budget as possible, finding little ways to transform it without spending a fortune.

Jumping on the bandwagon and adding a little bit of whimsy to the kitchen 🤍

I wasn’t sure about this one as a hack, I really wasn’t sure if it would work or just look a bit naff 😂 but I’m so glad I went for it.

I’ve been wanting to do something with this little in-built seating area for ages, and not only has the cafe curtain made it feel so much cosier, it’s also hiding some of the less attractive elements that I didn’t really know what to do with!

Sometimes you just have to go for it, don’t you? by @everyh0me

Onto some relatively permanent kitchen decisions now, and I need your help! 😩
I’m trying to finally finish off the splashback behind the hob and I’ve narrowed it down to three options:

1. Tongue & groove – simple, cosy, adds a bit of texture and mirrors the other side
2. White subway tiles – classic and timeless
3. Vintage mirror – a little bit different and would reflect loads of light

I honestly keep changing my mind between the three 😂

Which one would you choose for my kitchen? 1, 2 or 3? 👇🏼

And if you have another idea entirely… tell me! 👀

The kitchen wasn’t exactly what I pictured when we moved in… but slowly, it’s becoming much more me 🤍

There’s still a few things I want to finish, but we’re getting there.

If this was your kitchen, what would you do next?👇🏻 by @everyh0me
