Before the day ends, we want to wish a very happy birthday to Robert Smith 🖤🎉

𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪❔

Richard Oakes from @suedehq has long been a fan of @thecure , with Robert Smith standing out as one of his greatest musical influences.

"In terms of genres, the music that first made me want to play the guitar — although at the time I didn’t think of it as post-punk, just as guitar music — was bands like Public Image Ltd., Joy Division, The Fall, The Cure, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Hearing the way those groups used the electric guitar, in contrast to what someone like Jimmy Page was doing, felt like a completely different world. It inspired me enormously. It was very anti-rock (…)
But it wasn’t until 'Autofiction' that I felt it was the right moment to channel those influences. And suddenly I found myself channelling all those guitarists I’d loved since I was 12, like Craig Scanlon, Robert Smith, and Bernard Sumner.”
