Did we make healthy hair optional in the name of convenience?

In this week’s Substack, I’m giving you an inside look at a conversation I had with the client pictured here. And I’d love to hear your opinion!

Appointments have become more time-efficient, but treatments, maintenance, and healthy-hair practices have gradually become less of a priority. Because honestly, as a stylist, you’re constantly left with the responsibility of watching the clock.

I’ve expressed to several clients the importance of setting aside time for treatments. I’ve even started offering to book those appointments before they leave. And guess what? Most STILL aren’t booking them!

So I’m genuinely asking…

WHY IS THE RUSH THE GOAL NOW????

Are we prioritizing convenience over the very thing we’re coming to the salon for in the first place? 🤔

This was me, my baby sister and my BONUS daughters song anywho this my baby sister as my muse and she basically a fake natural, her hair mind you I’ve been her hairstylist since she was a baby. so she Ginuwinely does not know how to do her hair. 🤣 I mean imagine growing up and in every school pic your hair is done! she’s so spoiled, 🤭 now before anyone start she did have a chicken head stage from coloring her hair and then changing her mind and recoloring her hair then deciding she was going to “try” and do her own hair so this is what we got after all that she almost back to high school hair length and yall why she want a weave 🙄 send help please! by @everythingchevon

We gotta get over these braids yall im sorry I really am I loved me some Dokey braids back n tha day but the way OUR hair is responding currently it’s game over frfr 1st pic March second pic September this is after wearing braids 3X’s we were already on a rehabilitation journey 😫😩😔 luckily my client had crop but for my clients who already were recovering density this is a major set back. When I have clients who go get braids now my message is “be careful” because nothing I do before or after will recover what was lost in one appointment we start back at one and I can’t stand Brian McKnight or beginning yet again 😭 by @everythingchevon
