The Starbucks on Avenue A and St. Mark’s Place closed on Saturday as part of the coffee chain’s latest round of cuts.

The Avenue A location opened in August 2017 (RIP Nino’s Pizza), arriving amid neighborhood protests and plenty of “not another Starbucks” sentiment.

With this closure, just ONE Starbucks will remain in the East Village — on First Avenue at Third Street.

People may finally have to retire the longstanding joke that every empty storefront will eventually become a Starbucks.

Weeks of tension outside the Harry Styles pop-up on Second Street boiled over Friday afternoon.

Longtime East Village bookseller Bonnie Slotnick, 72, was arrested following an altercation with a member of the pop-up’s security team. She spent roughly 12 hours in custody, including time at the 9th Precinct, Manhattan Central Booking and Bellevue Hospital.

Slotnick spoke at length with EVG’s Stacie Joy about the confrontation, the weeks of friction over crowds and line management, and what happened during her night in custody.

She is also candid about her own role in the escalating tensions.

“I’m going to keep my big fat mouth shut, which is incredibly hard for me,” she told us.

Her hope now?

“I want the whole thing to go away.”

The merch pop-up shop will be on the block until Nov. 1 … during Styles’ 30-show residency at the Garden.

EVG road trip! The Feast of San Gennaro (@feastofsangennaro_official) returned to Little Italy on Thursday for its annual run of sausage and peppers, fried everything, carnival rides, processions and packed streets.

Among the familiar faces was Lucy the Sausage Queen (@lucysausage), who clarified an important Feast fact: Despite several booths bearing the Lucy's name, her stand is the one in the middle of the festivities — easy enough to identify by Lucy herself, stationed near the peppers and keeping an eye on the cash.

Her longtime slogan still stands: "Lucy’s hot, Lucy's sweet, Lucy's sausage can’t be beat!"

The festival — the 100th edition — runs through Sept. 27.

Here is the new look at the SE corner of 4th Street and Avenue B.

Tony Echeverri bought 246 E. Fourth St. in the early 1990s. Since then, the former building super has made the corner of Avenue B one of the neighborhood’s most colorful addresses.

After several months of painting this summer, the building has a new look. Tony and his son, Michael, hand-picked a palette that includes Mayan Gold Aqua Leaf, Spring Lilac, Charmed Violet, Heritage Red and Serendipity Peach — plus some extra glitter.

The project required more than 300 gallons of paint. This time, the Echeverris (who both live here) used oil-based paint, which they hope will keep the exterior colorful for the next decade.

Outside the new Sephora, the Walking Gallery (@walkinggallerynyc) is staking its own claim on St. Mark’s Place.

The outdoor gallery sets up most afternoons and evenings at the northeast corner of Third Avenue and St. Mark’s Place, weather permitting. It features clothing by NOFACE, HOMESICK and STOP MEN, prints and trinkets along with poems written on the spot by artist Mia (@lovemia.arg).

We spoke with @nofuckenface about the project aiming to reclaim space for neighborhood artists … and the gallery’s uneasy relationship with Sephora. He said the retailer has called the police and sent security guards to ask the group to move.

“This is a protest against Sephora too, and a poke at gentrification,” he said. “We want to bring back art and reclaim the movement.”

The hours vary, generally starting around 3 or 4 p.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. Check @walkinggallerynyc for updates.

East Village resident Irene Mok (@irenemokwork) had already taken tens of thousands of photos when she realized she had been documenting her own experience of growing up in New York City.

Those images — along with personal essays and Mok’s graphic design — became “Locals Only,” a self-published, 384-page book capturing friends, neighbors and everyday life in the East Village, Lower East Side and Chinatown.

In a new EVG Q&A, Mok, a student at Parsons, talks with Stacie Joy about creating the book, finding meaning in ordinary moments and preserving a period of her life that was constantly changing.
