Going nuts lately working on small scale paintings whilst simultaneously exploring off canvas. I’ve been taking my sketchbook everywhere, stepping away from doomscrolling and getting back to drawing.

Breaking down the landscape into contours, positive and negative space,studying shadows as they stretch and shrink throughout the day.

Next week, I head off to @the_corridor_project_australia in my mind, I’m already there.

Flowers are everywhere in nature, and their colour can be felt before it is consciously understood. Maybe this is part of their enduring power: colour acts on us physically and emotionally before we have words for why.

They’re almost ready. The roses are still tightly held, but you can feel what’s coming. Every morning there are more buds, a little more colour, a little more promise.

I find myself checking on them constantly.

There’s something beautiful about waiting for a flower to open. Knowing it’s coming, but not knowing exactly when.

Skipping ahead a little. While I’ve still got plenty of wooden pieces to prepare and paint, I couldn’t resist painting a few in colour, just to explore and see where this might be going. It’s a very different way of processing, working and painting for me, and I’m finding it incredibly exciting.

And of course, the full moon is in Aries, and I am an Aries. I’ve always got to jump ahead and see what it is I’m going to get excited about.

I’m revved and ready to start creating a new body of work this week. I’ll be scaling back in size, a return to the 20x20cm and 50/60 cm-ish.

Sometimes a slight pause and exploring different mediums leads you back into the right headspace. And sometimes sitting stuck at home in the sun with a head cold will also do it.

A couple of weeks on from my first Sydney Contemporary, it was such a whirlwind, and I was so distracted by all the noise and excitement that I didn’t get many social pics .

A huge thank you to everyone who came by, introduced themselves and showed their support. And a big thank you to Olsen Gallery for having me as part of the stand. It was a pretty special experience and I’m so glad to have been part of it.

It’s interesting how quickly we can become defined by the language used to describe art. I’ve never really felt at home within those distinctions. My process moves between painting and photography, intuition and documentation and experience.
