“Lock in if you take Fishin’ Jimmy”

My 13th and 14th 4000 footers in NH are in the books and WOW these were difficult!

The Kinsman’s (North and South Peaks) via the Fishin’ Jimmy trail was quite the trek and definitely the hardest hike I’ve done so far, started at around 7AM and finished around 2:30PM but we got it done! Definitely had to lock in though as it was probably the most technical hike in terms of rock scrambles, one false move and I probably wouldn’t be writing this post 😂

There’s captions on the rest of the images for those who wanna scroll through, but it feels good to get back at it after not doing a hike in July, I knew I had to get one under my belt wearing the UMass Hockey shirt I got from Coach Carvel!

Scroll all the way to the end to see how my body was feeling afterwards!

14/48 now, go out and explore nature.

The summit at the North Peak, had to get a quick pic in because there were a fair amount of people trying to see the views as well!

South peak (not as picturesque unfortunately but all smiles after reaching the summit of both peaks!

A view of where my buddy Kyle and I would eventually be climbing (this is the halfway point at the Kinsman Pond Shelter). Kinsman Pond is absolutely beautiful!

Gotta get a quick sign post in!

Some cool stone steps, there were a ton of cool pieces of terrain throughout the hike, super varied!

We love a forest mushroom! Trying to get more pictures of flora on these hikes (unfortunately the chipmunks move too fast for me to get any fauna in these posts)

More cool forest views!

Some STEEP rock faces to climb up, slow and steady!

Gotta post a stream with every one of these hikes, basically a tradition for me at this point!

There we so many berries, both red and blue, not gonna lie I was tempted to have a little snack but refrained 😅

More elite views, genuinely don’t think there’s a more beautiful spot in America than the White Mountains!

Immaculate.

Had to get a pic at Lonesome Lake as well, it’s about a quarter of the way up the trail and is an awesome spot to hang if you wanna do a shorter hike!

Also we eat good as always on these trips 😋

Pre-hike beer!

“Let the boys play”

2 posts in 3 days has to be a new record for me 😅, finally was able to cross off the World Cup from my bucket list (I swear I do more than just hike). It was great being able to travel just an hour to Gillette (not Boston Stadium Jesus Christ…) and see some of the best players in the world play on the biggest stage.

The atmosphere was absolutely amazing and it was great to see people united by a sport that the world holds so dear, and I had conversations with both Norwegian and Iraqi folks and both countries had tremendous football (soccer, whatever) cultures and were extremely friendly.

The game itself ended up being a 4-1 win for Norway and it was amazing to see stars such as Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard (as well as current Wolverhampton Left Back David Møller Wolfe) play.

Kind of a shock that for as big of a football guy as I am, this ended up being my first ever professional game I’ve seen in person. Shoutout to @cameronguzzo per usual for convincing me to attend such an event, definitely gonna be following Norwegian football way more going forward! by @evin_sully

“Momma didn’t raise a quitter but she sure raised a complainer”

3 more 4000 footers to add to the list.

Mount Tom, Mount Field and Mount Willey kicked my ass this weekend I’m gonna be real, the quote at the beginning of this post was not my own but of a fellow hiker I met at the top of Mount Willey but it sure as hell held true for me this time around.

10 miles, 3300 feet of elevation gain, and a multitude of issues on the hike from running outta water towards the end and having some of the most intense muscle soreness I’ve ever felt, but hey, my buddy Kyle and I got it done and I’m now at 12 out of 48 4000 completed.

Cool rocks, elite views and just stunning nature overall made for a great (yet at times extremely physically taxing) time overall, but the sense of accomplishment at the end makes it all worth it.

Peep the last pic for how I truly felt towards the end (Sponngebob “it’s not just a boulder, it’s a rock” vibes for sure 😂)

Getting out into nature has been a good escape from everything going on in life, things have been busy and difficult for me mentally lately, but sometimes a quick escape to the White Mountains allows for a reset and a bit of a sanity check, I’ll be back soon enough. taken in Mt. “Is the plural form of moose…. meese?”

4000 footer #9 in the books. Mount Hale proved to be the easiest one yet (and most likely the easiest one I’ll ever do). The weather wasn’t exactly cooperative with the rain and wind on Sunday morning (hence the song choice for the post 😂). My tent was literally flipped over on its side at the campsite when we returned from the hike so that was awesome 😅

First hike of this summer, every year so far I’ve doubled up on how many summits I’ve hit, I did 4 last year to bring the total to 8/48, I’m hoping this summer I can do 8 more to bring it up to 16/48.

It’s been good to see the progress and how much more seriously I’ve been taking this as a fun and physically productive hobby, I’ll have all 48 done in no time.

Here’s to a solid Memorial Day weekend, shout out to @nathanrestor and Kyle (let me tag you goddammit) for tagging along, made it super fun as it tends to be! taken in Mount Hale by @evin_sully

Just an absolutely unreal day, the kindness and generosity of the @umasshockey program and everyone affiliated with it had me truly humbled today.

I got to spend this morning touring the practice facilities and spent some time with the coaching staff talking all things UMass Hockey related. Coach Carvel and the rest of the staff were extremely warm and inviting to both @cameronguzzo and I (@sophia_laskaris too!) and they showed us why it’s so easy to root for UMass Hockey and spend the time, effort and energy on the @highcharacter_ podcast.

The facilities are some of the best in college hockey, and it was amazing to see them in person. Before we left, I received probably the most amazing piece of UMass memorabilia I will ever be able to possess. A piece of the netting that was used during the National Championship game that UMass won back in 2021. Something I will cherish and frame for my future mancave when I eventually buy my own house 🙏

This program means so much to be both personally (and honestly it’s veering towards professionally as well) and I couldn’t be prouder to support anything else.

As a parting note, it feels good to have a post on my instagram that isn’t hiking related for the first time in a while. 😅 taken in Mullins Center by @evin_sully

“Comparison is the thief of joy”

I’m gonna be honest here, it’s been a difficult 2 months for me mentally.

My self-worth had been at an all time low for the past 3-4 weeks and coupled with other stuff happening in my life, it hasn’t been an easy couple of months. I’ve been using the past month or so as a way to really work on myself and narrow down the things I truly need to work on to better myself and feel truly healthy both physically and mentally.

I’ve been making a concerted effort recently to make time for both the things I love and the people I love. I’ve been working out more and hanging out more with friends doing hikes like these and seeing family more as well, and it truly has helped. Of course I can’t say that I’ve fully healed and have found an ideal version of myself yet (and who knows if I’ll ever become a perfect version that I set out to become) but I’m working on it and it’s getting better day by day.

Mount Lincoln and Lafayette were the 2 4000 footers I attacked this past weekend, and while they weren’t easy at all, it was a major accomplishment for myself personally. 8 hours of hiking, 9 miles and 3800 feet of elevation gain really tested what I could do, and it was really fulfilling when all was said and done. The views were genuinely incredible and I’m not sure I’ll ever see anything better. The pictures really don’t do it justice.

Shouts out to Kyle and @yoboychrisp for doing this with me, it was a lot of fun. 6 4000 footers done this summer, I promise I’ll get all 48 under my belt eventually.

If you’ve read all the way to this point, I appreciate you, and remember, things will get better. taken in Mount Lincoln by @evin_sully

“I thought we said no rock climbing?”

First off, turned 28 a few days ago, took the week off from work and decided to do some more hiking to check off my 5th and 6th (doubled up woooo) 4000 footers with my buddy Kyle!

Mount Osceola and East Osceola kicked my ass for sure, had to face my fear of heights and climbing quite a bit, but we got it done and it ended up being a pretty proud sense of accomplishment for myself.

Swipe through to see some beautiful scenery, me at the summit of both peaks, an action shot of me trying to actively not plummet to my demise, and a close up of a frog friend I made on the way up!

I highly recommend everyone to at least spend a day out in the white mountains, genuinely amazing nature, and the surrounding towns have some amazing food and drinks run by some great people. Blessed to have this within close proximity to me. taken in Mount Osceola by @evin_sully

“Lonesome Lake? What are we playing, Fortnite?”

Cannon Mountain, 4th NH 4000 footer in the books, and this one I can easily say was the most fun for me. Something clicked in my brain, maybe it’s because my muscles are stronger and my cardio is better, but I enjoyed every second of this even if it was by far the most difficult hike I’ve done thus far.

Some parts were honestly a bit dangerous, precarious cliffs, steep dropoffs, straight up ladders going up to sketchy wall shimmys. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I had no idea going into this that Cannon Mountain was a part of the T25 (which I guess stands for Terrifying 25 due to its sheer difficulty 😂😅).

The views were downright gorgeous, and shouts out to my boys Kyle and Nate for tagging along and providing some killer pics. This was the hike that converted me, I’m definitely finishing all 48 4000 footers eventually. taken in Cannon Mountain, Franconia Notch,NH by @evin_sully

3rd 4000 footer in New Hampshire taken care of 🫡

Hiked Mount Waumbek yesterday in the White Mountains, hit the summit of Mount Starr King on the way up!

The views unfortunately were a bit obscured by the tree line, but it was a hell of a trek.

Hoping to take down a few more of these this summer and start taking it a bit more seriously going forward, Franconia Ridge next perhaps??

Also shoutout to my buddy Kyle (can’t tag him 😔) for tagging along and putting up with my bullshit 😂😂 taken in Mount Waumbek by @evin_sully

“I swear every picture we take out here looks like a Windows Home Screen”

Another state checked off the list, did some amazing hiking, some super fun mini golfing, watched UMass win a hockey game 8-0 and did some fantasy football scouting at a Cardinals game 😅

Arizona is beautiful in every sense of the word, great people, unreal scenery, gotta find my way back at some point for sure!

Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

Last month I headed out to Las Vegas and Los Angeles for a weekend, saw some landmarks from one of my favorite games (Fallout: New Vegas) and checked off Dodgers stadium as another MLB ballpark I’ve visited and it was unreal to see Shohei Ohtani play (NLCS Game 1 to boot!)

The Hoover Dam is frankly an insane marvel of civil engineering (finally I can see something famous semi related to my field of work 😅). And the Mojave Desert brought genuinely some of the most beautiful mountain scenery I’ve seen in my life so far, so happy @cameronguzzo and I drove through rather than flew directly to Vegas!

Climbed up Mount Pierce to check off a second 4000 footer in the White Mountains of New Hampshire this weekend!

Very appreciative of my buddy Kyle for remaining patient and keeping me sane through the whole thing!

Amazing views on the ground level but unfortunately it was way too foggy on the summit for any cool views.

Check the last pic for how I felt once I got back to my car 😂😂 taken in Mount Pierce Summit, Nh by @evin_sully
