In 2016, @lysaterkeurst told me about a fellow Bible nerd in the Atlanta area that I just HAD to meet, and she gave me @whitneycapps number. I reached out, and we met for lunch soon after.
Whit showed up with her beaming smile, dressed to the nines in her amazing style, and big earrings (of course!). We sat and talked for hours. Literally HOURS. I remember leaving that lunch smelling like Panera and knowing I had found a kindred spirit…a forever friend.
Whit’s love for Jesus seemed to exude from her pores. She had such a deep desire to help women grow in biblical knowledge and theology, and to KNOW Him the way she did.
She was one of the most brilliant women I’ve ever known, but that brilliance was wrapped in a beautiful humility without a speck of pretense. She was often my first call when I was wrestling with a complicated question, and she always met my questions with grace + wisdom. She gave me courage to be a Bible teacher and inspired me to study deeper.
Whit was a loyal prayer partner + a fierce champion of her friends’ dreams. She was the kind of friend who remembered the things you told her, asked about them later, and always followed up. She always found a way to turn the conversation back to others and away from herself. Even when I visited a few weeks ago, she couldn’t stop asking questions and wanting to know updates about my life. She hung onto every word, all while her own body ached in pain. She was always thinking of others. Early in our friendship, she introduced me to her treasured friend + mentor @kristawilliams14 who became a dear friend to me, too. Whitney was generous like that, always making room for others at the table, always sharing the people and things she loved.
Whitney has been with Jesus for a few days now. I keep imagining the joyful reception she received. I picture that huge Whitney smile and a body free from pain as she worships her Savior face to face and sits at His feet…the Jesus she loved, studied, taught, and spent her life pointing others towards. It takes my breath away! Cancer does not get the final word in Whitney’s story. God does. He’s still good, and He still gets all the glory! But oh how I will miss my friend. by @evogeltanz

It is absolutely, embarrassingly thrilling to win a medal as a grown adult. 😆💪🏼🏅
10/10. Highly recommend. You should try it sometime. Might wear it to the grocery store.

Some pages for the scrapbook: Senior stuff. Friends birthdays, a friend’s new baby, and friends praying for miracles. Family time with 3 teenage girls and missing Nash. And making time for things I love like pickleball, teaching Wednesday morning bible study, and of course Bryson🥰. I’m just trying to hold on to every grain of sand, as if I could slow the hourglass… by @evogeltanz

Sadie, Steph, Katy…you and the whole LO Sister team are top tier humans. Truly. 🥹 Every single year my heart is encouraged and my faith emboldened as I experience your humble leadership, love for this community, and desire for Jesus. I’m so thankful that my girls and I have a front row seat to the beautiful work of Jesus through this ministry. Thank you for including me. Mamas, figure out how to get your girls here next year. What a gift!!

Nash. I love this picture of you holding your newborn cousin this summer. Strong + gentle. It’s hard to believe you were once that small.
You have your grandfather’s hands that can fix anything. Your dad’s wisdom and sense of adventure. Those arms give the best hugs and help anyone in need. I love your imagination, brilliant mind and the way you see the world. You’re kind and generous to the core. It’s who you are. You love your people well.
I believe this year will be one that marks you in the all best ways as you grow and stretch into this new season on your own.

Two things can be true at the same time.
I’m ridiculously proud and completely wrecked.
Sending Nash to college feels like the definition of bittersweet. We are SO happy to watch him crack open this new chapter of his story and at the same time, a deep sadness as we close a chapter in ours. It’s right and good…and it’s hard.
I heeded the advice of older moms who warned that, “it goes quick.” I believed them back then, but I FEEL it now. Deep in my bones, I’m grieving the passing of time.
Sometimes growing up really does feel like goodbye.

Go with Jesus, Nash! We love all of who you are and are becoming. We could not be more proud of you.

I love my job. Earlier this year I got to travel to Egypt with two of my favorite film makers (@kevtcollins @hamiltonmcafee @illuminations12vc ) to capture a glimpse of what God is doing through Bible translation work and the faithful people serving in the region. Grateful for the beauty and wonder I have witnessed around the world. Don’t lose hope. God is on the move.
