Evolving doesn’t have to feel emotionally violent.

Sometimes we believe evolving has to be achieved through breakdown, force, or emotional exhaustion.

But not all growth has to feel emotionally violent where we feel battered and bruised.
That kind of pain and force will lead to avoidance and block you from moving forward.

Sometimes evolving looks like:
🤍pausing before reacting,
🤍choosing intention over default survival mode,
🤍returning to things that bring peace,
and
🤍slowly creating experiences that teach your nervous system: “You are safe here now.”

Healing isn’t always dramatic.

Sometimes evolving is gentle repetition of new experiences that bring you back to you.

I can’t! I will fail!

There was a time, I wouldn’t have believed this picture was me.

To survive, I learned to hold myself back to feel safe.
↓
Someone once asked me a question I couldn’t answer.

“But what if you fail?”

What was I protecting myself from?

Is there something that you’re protecting yourself from?

Today I’m recognising, pausing, choosing.

Don’t rush.

Please don’t rush to fix yourself.
Your soul, who you are, does not need fixing.

This piece was created during a time of letting go of grief, of what I couldn’t change, of the weight I had been carrying quietly for a long time.

Not all at once. Not perfectly.
Just... gently.

The stillness in the water, the fallen leaves, the path ahead, it’s not about loss.
It’s about permission.

Permission to feel without rushing to fix it.
Permission to release without needing closure to look a certain way.
Permission to keep going, even when part of you is still looking back.

Healing is about learning what you can carry differently.

How do you paint a love story that has taken almost a lifetime to write?

Mum and Dad-in-law.

I didn’t just paint two people I love.

I painted two people who have shown me what love looks like when it keeps showing up.

I didn’t film myself painting this one.

I needed to be completely present with it.

Just me, the canvas and their story.

They have been more than my husband’s mum and dad. They have been a constant source of unconditional love, acceptance and support in my life, and there have been times when that has meant more to me than they will probably ever know.

When I look at them, I don’t just see two people who have been married for decades. I see everything their love has created, their sons, their daughters-in-law, their grandchildren, and the family they continue to show up for.

Their love story isn’t just about the two of them anymore.

It lives in all of us.

And that is what I wanted to capture in this painting.

Not just how they looked walking together that day, but something of the life, love and loyalty that has walked beside them for all these years.

I don’t know if a painting can ever truly capture something that big.

But I wanted to try. 🤍

Thirty-four years.

Anniversaries often celebrate love, but we’ve come to believe that love is measured less by grand gestures and more by what it quietly creates over time. We don’t buy each other cards or presents. Instead we choose to give each other time.

We believe that the greatest gift two people can give each other isn’t to rescue or change one another. It’s to create a relationship where each person feels safe enough to discover and become more of who they truly are.

Our marriage hasn’t been built on perfection. Far from it. It’s been built on patience, respect, kindness, laughter, ordinary days, very difficult conversations, unwavering commitment and the freedom to keep growing, both individually and together.

Over the years, we’ve slowly learned that real love isn’t so much about completing each other but we have worked hard to create the kind of relationship where each person can continue evolving, knowing they’re accepted and encouraged.

We never expect each other to become someone we’re not.

These thirty four years together have been a beautiful experience but the best part is the family we’ve built along the way. Our children, the partners they’ve welcomed into our family, and now our grandchildren are, without a doubt, the best part of our love story. They remind us every day that love doesn’t end with two people, it grows and continues through the lives we share together.

Thirty-four years later, (we’ve been busy having fun with our granddaughters so it’s plus four days now 😂) we’re grateful, not just for the life we’ve built but for the space we’ve created for each other to keep evolving every single day.

Silence

As artists, we often paint places because they’ve already found a place within us. Its home.

When I painted Dunwich Heath back in February, I wanted to capture the quiet beauty I love so much: morning mist, silver birch, purple heather, and a winding path inviting you to wander.

The recent wildfire photographs, heartbreakingly, tell a very different story. Blackened earth. Smoke. Loss. Silence.

Looking at my painting now, it carries something it didn’t when I first finished it. It has become a reminder of Dunwich Heath as so many of us remember it, making it feel even more precious.

But nature never remains in what it was yesterday.

Beneath the scorched ground, roots remain. Seeds wait patiently in the soil. Life begins again with what survived. In the truest sense, it evolves.

I hope that one day, when the purple heather returns, this painting will remind me that landscapes, like people, can carry scars and still grow into something new.

Sometimes the most beautiful part of a story isn’t what was lost.
It’s what finds the courage to grow again. 💜

“Between becoming”.

Maybe we’ve been asking the wrong questions…?

Are the choices you make aligned with who you’re becoming?

Because that’s where the growth happens.

That’s where we stumble…

learn…

adapt…

build…

and gradually evolve, becoming more ourselves.
This is another unfinished, becoming painting I’m sharing with you all.

Thank you Jen, for being part of this creative chapter, not only for everything you’ve taught me about painting, but for being part of a chapter that has quietly prepared me for the next one.

Now it’s time to walk a little further along the pier 😘 and I’m so glad it’s with you.

Sometimes we don’t realise we’re walking on a path of becoming until we look back.

And now…

it’s time to keep walking.

My role in Evolve with Anthea is less about supporting you to arrive at a fixed destination. It’s about creating a space where you can self observe and learn more about who you really are. I walk alongside you while you are learning to trust the process of becoming.

I don’t provide you with answers, I create a space where you discover your own.
