Are Aurorus’ sails made of bone?

I visited the Pokemon Field Museum Fossil Exhibit in Chicago to explain how Pokemon fossils aren’t always just bone.

We can and have already found Amaura and Aurorus fossils with these sail impressions left behind. What’s your favorite fossil Pokemon? #pokemongame #pokemon #pokemonfossilmuseum #pokemonlegendsza #pokemoncosplay taken in Field Museum, Chicago by @evolvingcory

Why do many Mega Pokemon look like their pre-evolved forms? Jacq from Paldea’s too academy dives into this Pokemon mystery. This appears to be a form of atavism, which is a biological process that happens when an organism expresses ancestral traits that long been dormant in a species.

For example, human embryos have tails that usually disappear during normal gestation, though very rarely a mutation can occur that will cause a baby to be born with a tail.

And for Mega Pokemon, the surge of Mega Power they experience upon evolution allows many to re-express features from their pre-evolved forms.

Think Mega Dragonite having the wings and tail of Dragonair,
Ampharos regaining its wool from Flaaffy,
Eelektross gaining Eeelektrik-like appendages,
And Scolipede regaining Whirlipede’s armor.

We’ve even seen Pokemon with no pre-evolutions expressing atavistic qualities when they mega evolve: for example, Mega Mewtwo Y resembles its genetic parent, Mew.

And while Salamence does have pre-evolutions, Mega Salamence bears an extreme resemblance to Roaring Moon, but those two are part of two completely separate evolutionary lines — unless maybe you’re talking about the concept of evolution throughout history. #pokemonlegendsza #pokemonscarletandviolet #pokemondlc #pokemoncosplay #pokemon by @evolvingcory
