Meteor Strike near Comet Lemmon! Here’s the Timelapse video I was shooting of Comet Lemmon rising from behind the mountains in Joshua Tree. Unfortunately or fortunately, an Orionid meteor photo bombed my shot and disintegrated in the atmosphere. Andromeda Galaxy with deep red Hydrogen Alpha made visible. Our universe is mostly made of hydrogen and using a specialized narrowband filter to block out other wavelengths of lights allows us to see some of the hidden structures of deep space objects. I just captured newly discovered Supernova SN 2026aaiv! This supernova is the result of a white dwarf star blowing up in the spiral galaxy NGC7331 in constellation Pegasus! While we are witnessing this rare phenomenon from a safe distance of 45 million light years away, it is still so bright because this supernova is about 5 billion times brighter than our sun. Comet PANSTARRS C/2025 R3 on a 170,000 year orbit around the sun. The comet’s distinctive bright green hue is from its diatomic carbon and cyanogen content reacting to sunlight. This was captured back in April 2026 when the comet had a long dust tail and visible to the eye. I’m trying out some new processing techniques using Pixinsight and working my way through my archives. Last night’s Andromeda Galaxy M31 as captured over Joshua Tree! The autumn night sky is coming into view and the weather is finally starting to show signs of cooling. Located about 2.5 million light years away, Andromeda is our nearest major galactic neighbor. Due to its proximity, It is absolute huge in our night sky at about 6 times wider than the size of a full moon. You are looking at a trillion stars. Fall season is arriving and with it marks the return of the Orion Nebula in the night sky! This spectacular nebula is easy to find by looking for the 3 bright stars in a line evenly spaced that make up Orion’s Belt. Right now viewing is best in the early morning starting around 3 am until dawn. As we approach fall equinox, it will appear earlier each night. The nebula is huge and colorful with a lot of complex layered structures. Can’t wait to point my telescope to Orion as the moon wanes. New moon is next week! Nature is in a constant state of change. Many of these changes happen on a timescale much greater than we humans are able to perceive or appreciate.
