The Wellington Pride have done it! 🏆
FPC Champions 2026 !!

Twenty years on since we last won the premiership. And it got me thinking though, our women are still representing their province without being paid to play.

Moments like these are an opportunity to not only celebrate women’s sporting success, but to have a bigger conversation about how we value women’s sport.

As a Wellington Rugby Board member, I’m incredibly proud of this team. But celebrating success and advocating for better conditions shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

I’m also conscious that I’m now one of the people sitting at tables where decisions are made. And with that comes a responsibility to do more than celebrate these women. It means advocating for a future where their contribution is valued financially.

These women deserve our applause. They also deserve our investment. But most importantly, they deserve to have their worth recognised and championed by those of us in positions to influence change. by @ewiroxburgh_
