Introducing CLARA HICKERSON! Your 2026 Fall Classic Connaway & Associates Amateur Sportsmanship Award Winner!

Clara was such a joy to have at the show, especially as this was her first show back since graduating from nursing school! It was so clear how happy she was to be back at the barn, spending time with her horse, Porter, and getting back into the show ring. Her enthusiasm and excitement to be back were truly contagious!

What stood out just as much, though, was how quick Clara was to lend a hand. She was always looking for ways to help our staff and fellow exhibitors, jumping in wherever she saw a need without ever being asked. One moment in particular really captured who Clara is. When another exhibitor realized they needed a replacement canister for their air vest, Clara immediately offered to help. She jumped in her car, ran down the street to the local tack store to pick one up for them, and then took the time to teach them how to replace it. She didn't hesitate for a second—she simply saw someone who needed help and made sure they had what they needed.

Her thoughtfulness extended beyond just helping in the moment. When Clara went to choose her prize from her division, she remembered hearing another exhibitor mention how much they wanted a particular item. Rather than choosing something for herself, Clara specifically selected it so she could give it to them. It was such a small gesture, but one that said so much about her character.

Clara's kindness, generosity, and genuine willingness to help others made her a wonderful part of our show. She truly embodies the spirit of sportsmanship, and we were so happy to have her back in the show ring with us! by @exelshows

Introducing MARIE SMITH! Your 2026 Fall Classic Connaway & Associates Junior Sportsmanship winner!

Marie has such a genuine love and connection with her horse, Pierogi, and it was so special to watch them experience their very first show together! You could truly see how proud she was of Pierogi and how much she enjoyed every moment of the weekend with him. From the very beginning, Marie approached each new experience with so much enthusiasm, excitement, and appreciation for the journey they were on together.

What made Marie especially wonderful to have at the show was that she was just as excited to celebrate the people around her as she was to celebrate her own accomplishments. She was such a genuine cheerleader for her fellow competitors, always quick to congratulate others and celebrate their successes. One moment that really stood out was after her under saddle class. Marie was so thoughtful in making a point to congratulate the first-place winner, genuinely excited for them and their accomplishment. It was such a simple gesture, but it showed how naturally she celebrates others and how much she truly wants to see her fellow competitors succeed.

Throughout the weekend, Marie's pride in Pierogi, joy in their partnership, and excitement for everything they were learning were so evident. She celebrated the good moments, embraced the challenges, and never lost sight of how special it was to be experiencing their first show together. Her genuine happiness for herself, Pierogi, and the people around her perfectly captured the true spirit of sportsmanship. by @exelshows
