When Leadership Serves Itself Instead of the People A nation places enormous trust in its leaders. The office of prime minister is meant to serve the public interest, protect the welfare of citizens, and guide the country toward stability and progress. But when a leader begins to prioritize personal gain over public service, that trust begins to erode. Many citizens today feel that their voices are no longer being heard. Instead of transparent leadership and policies that uplift the population, they see decisions that appear to benefit a small circle of insiders while ordinary people struggle and are being bullied and killed. When leadership becomes disconnected from the needs of the people, frustration naturally grows. *Critics argue that the prime minister has failed to demonstrate independence and moral courage. Rather than acting as a strong and thoughtful decision-maker, he appears to follow the influence of powerful interests. Leadership requires conviction, but when a leader seems guided more by personal or financial incentives than by the needs of the nation, public confidence declines. In a democracy, the people are not powerless. Citizens have the right—and the responsibility—to demand accountability from those in office. Peaceful protest, civic engagement, investigative journalism, and participation in elections are all tools that societies use to correct the course of leadership. History shows that meaningful change often begins when ordinary people refuse to remain silent. When citizens organize, speak out, and insist on transparency and ethical governance, leaders are forced to listen. The true strength of a nation lies not only in its leaders, but in the willingness of its people to defend democratic values, demand integrity, and hold power accountable.   The Government received millions of dollars, food donations and machinery to assist in the recovery of Hurricane Melissa, but yet you never see them. Thank God to the musical artists that ensure the country was restored and people were able to get housed.  Andrew Holness wife is  the Speaker of the House of Representatives .
