This wasn't my idea. and, until we were in it, I didn't know how much I needed it or what it would touch inside me.

Inspired by friends and fellow gatherers, I opened a small online space, mainly quiet, where cameras were off, emotions were welcome, especially the ones we struggle with, and everyone's story of grief, sadness and loss was prioritized.

For one hour, we gave voice, privately, to what needed to be said, maybe for the first time. We journaled and lit digital candles, and were not alone.

Nothing was solved. Even if solace was found, it wasn't about completion or perfection. Humans don't work that way. Nothing is one and done. We just go deeper and further, making sense, sometimes getting stuck, sometimes going forward, often inside out, raw and vulnerable, often: hurting. There has to be space for that. It has to be acknowledged that this is normal. because it is.

This poem became the theme —

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

That's "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver.

Good morning! I just voted. It meant so much to see the screen acknowledge that my vote was counted. Beautiful experience all around. So many people working the process, guiding us each step of the way. It should be easy and friendly to vote. #privileged (I know this is not the case in all U.S. states or all counties) #grateful ...no matter the outcome, there is still so much to do to begin to make this a normal thing, not just that our votes count, but that our governing and social care and wellbeing systems serve people in their individual pursuit of life, liberty and happiness vs ideologues and their master plans.

In the case of the American Negro, from the moment you are born every stick and stone, every face, is white. Since you have not yet seen a mirror, you suppose you are, too. It comes as a great shock around the age of 5, 6, or 7 to discover that the flag to which you have pledged allegiance, along with everybody else, has not pledged allegiance to you. It comes as a great shock to see Gary Cooper killing off the Indians, and although you are rooting for Gary Cooper, that the Indians are you.

It comes as a great shock to discover that the country which is your birthplace and to which your life and identity has not, in its whole system of reality, evolved any place for you. The disaffection and the gap between people, only on the basis of their skins, begins there and accelerates throughout your whole lifetime. You realize that you are 30 and you are having a terrible time. You have been through a certain kind of mill and the most serious effect is again not the catalogue of disaster--the policeman, the taxi driver, the waiters, the landlady, the banks, the insurance companies, the millions of details 24 hours of every day which spell out to you that you are a worthless human being. It is not that. By that time you have begun to see it happening in your daughter, your son or your niece or your nephew. You are 30 by now and nothing you have done has helped you escape the trap. But what is worse is that nothing you have done, and as far as you can tell nothing you can do, will save your son or your daughter from having the same disaster and from coming to the same end.

Good morning NYC šŸ’›šŸ’›šŸ§” Thank you for doing this.

Black lives matter. It’s not just words. It starts with words, so we know what we’re talking about and where we’re headed.

惻惻 If Black lives do matter, then ALL black lives have to matter. That means black lives across gender have to be lifted up.
#SayHerName calls out the erasure of Black women as a consequence of the fact that because we don’t know their names, we don’t know their stories. Black women and girls cannot be an afterthought in the fight against police violence.

This just a glimpse into the stories of Black women and girls who have been killed by the police. There are so many more names and stories that we know. So many that we don’t.

#BreonnaTaylor was killed three months ago, yet the officers who murdered her are still getting paid. She should be turning 27 years old today.
Head to @aapolicyforum on ways to get involved and for shareable snapshots of this timeline.

For those of us just beginning to face our individual, collective and systemic racism, it is not going to be clear or comfortable, but the path forward is there. Stay in it. This is about each of us. It must be about all of us. Or it’s about none of us. Read all the other posts for resources for learning and leaders to follow and support. It’s important to understand and that understanding will take time and really it will never be complete. This post is about resolve. Stay in it. Solidarity from the inside out.

Black lives matter. You are needed in this.
