Overcorrection and oversteer can turn a small loss of control into a major crash very quickly, especially for inexperienced drivers.

When the rear of the car starts to slide, the natural reaction is often to panic and turn the wheel too aggressively in the opposite direction. If the tires suddenly regain grip while the steering is still heavily turned, the car can snap the other way and become even harder to control.

That back-and-forth movement is what can send a car spinning, into another lane or completely off the road.

At higher speeds, everything happens much faster, which leaves very little time to react properly. by @explainingmistakes

When traffic gets busy, some drivers think the extra lane is a shortcut.

They’ll drive down a shoulder, closed lane or lane that isn’t meant for normal traffic just to skip the queue, then force their way back in further ahead.

Besides being unfair to everyone waiting, it can be dangerous. Those lanes may be needed for emergencies, breakdowns or approaching emergency vehicles, and other drivers often aren’t expecting a car to come flying past there. by @explainingmistakes

Alcohol can completely change the way someone behaves.

Some people get louder, repeat themselves, lose their sense of personal space or start doing things they normally wouldn’t. What feels funny to them can quickly become annoying for everyone around them.

The more intoxicated someone gets, the worse their judgment and self-control usually become — which is why drunk behavior can go from harmless to embarrassing very fast. by @explainingmistakes

This dad got absolutely roasted by the MLB announcers after mom came back.

While she was gone, she was apparently doing everything at once — handling the kids, carrying the bags and keeping everything together. Then she returned and dad was still sitting there looking way too comfortable.

The announcers immediately noticed and started calling him out on live TV.

Sometimes the broadcast finds a storyline better than the actual game. by @explainingmistakes

Imagine driving one of the fastest cars in the world and suddenly being stuck at around 30 km/h because of a software bug.

During the wet race weekend in Malaysia, multiple F1 cars suddenly lost power during the formation laps. The issue was linked to the new hybrid system and FIA software, leaving drivers pressing the throttle with almost nothing happening.

The start had to be stopped while the problem was fixed.

Crazy reminder that even a Formula 1 car worth millions can basically become useless because of one software issue. by @explainingmistakes

Instead of matching the speed of traffic and smoothly joining the lane, they hesitate, brake too much or force their way in at the last second.

A group of tourists in Japan went viral after joking that everyone around them “stinks” and acting like only people from Latin America use deodorant.

Besides being disrespectful, it plays into a lazy stereotype. Hygiene habits and deodorant use vary from person to person and culture to culture — not entire nationalities.

Traveling somewhere new is supposed to be about experiencing a different culture, not insulting the people who live there. by @explainingmistakes

What looks like a bit of fun can become dangerous in seconds.

In this clip, a large piece of rock is broken loose from the edge and sent crashing down the slope. The problem is you have no control over where a rock that size will bounce, roll or break apart once it starts moving.

It can also destabilize more of the cliff edge and put anyone below in serious danger.

Definitely not worth doing just to watch it fall. by @explainingmistakes

Hadza hunters in Tanzania trying a modern compound bow is such a crazy contrast.

They’re already highly skilled with simple traditional self-bows they use for hunting, so when American bowhunter Paul Tudor Jones let them try a modern compound bow, their reactions were priceless.

The speed, let-off and mechanical release were completely different from what they were used to, but you could still see their natural archery instincts immediately.

A strange situation has been reported at École Polytechnique in France, where a group of travellers reportedly set up close to student housing on the campus.

Students were allegedly told to keep their rooms locked, secure valuables and report any intrusions rather than confronting people themselves. Reports on social media have also linked the situation to thefts on campus, although some of the more serious claims circulating online haven’t been independently confirmed.

What makes the situation even more unusual is that École Polytechnique isn’t just a prestigious university — it’s also a military school under France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces. by @explainingmistakes
