Butch Hartman, the animator behind popular children’s series like The Fairly OddParents, experienced a profound change in his life when he came to faith later on. Drawing from years of creating entertainment that reached millions of young viewers, he and his wife Julieann set out to produce something far more lasting: an animated series called The Garden. Their goal was straightforward yet vital—to place Scripture early into children’s hearts through stories that feel fun and familiar rather than distant or intimidating.

In The Garden, two friends named Lenny the Lion and Lucy the Lamb live in a wondrous place where God speaks to them each day and gives them tasks. When the pair struggle, they turn to biblical truth, often set to memorable songs, and learn how God’s Word guides everyday life. The series, along with a companion children’s Bible filled with Hartman’s own illustrations, aims to help families teach the faith at home in a way that is both joyful and rooted in the clear message of Scripture.

Scholars generally agree that Jesus was likely trilingual, using Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek to navigate the complex social and religious landscape of first-century Palestine. Aramaic was his primary everyday language—the common tongue of the home and marketplace in Galilee, as evidenced by specific Aramaic phrases like "Talitha koum" preserved in the Gospels. At the same time, as a Jewish man who frequented the synagogue and engaged in theological debates, he would have been fluent in Hebrew, the sacred language used for reading and discussing the Torah.

Beyond his Jewish community, Jesus likely possessed at least a working knowledge of Koine Greek, the lingua franca of the Roman Empire. Growing up in Nazareth, he lived near Sepphoris—a major cosmopolitan hub—and his trade as a craftsman would have required him to communicate with a diverse range of customers. Historical context and Gospel accounts, such as his direct interactions with a Roman centurion and the governor Pontius Pilate, suggest he could converse in Greek when addressing non-Jewish audiences or Roman officials.

Ezekiel bread is a nutrient-dense, multi-grain loaf famously inspired by the Old Testament verse Ezekiel 4:9.

In the biblical passage, God instructs the prophet Ezekiel: "Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself." While the Bible lists the six essential ingredients, it does not provide measurements or yeast instructions. In scripture, this was a survival ration intended for a time of intense scarcity and siege.

Modern versions combine these exact six plant-based components to create a rich, nutty loaf that yields a complete protein. This recipe incorporates a touch of yeast, honey, and olive oil to make a highly nourishing, delicious bread.

These extraordinary ages mark the generations that bridge creation and the new beginning after the waters receded. They show how human life, though already marked by the effects of the Fall, still retained a remarkable vitality in those first ages, allowing the covenant promises to be handed down across centuries until the world was ready for the next stage of God’s plan. by @explainingthebible

After a difficult stretch with the St. Louis Rams in 2015, Nick Foles lost all joy in football. He could not even pick up a ball for roughly eight months and seriously considered walking away from the NFL for good. In that season of uncertainty he turned to prayer and Scripture, leaning especially on the words of 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Through quiet conversation with the Lord and the support of his wife, he sensed that God would remain with him whether he left the game or returned to it. Taking a step of faith, he chose to continue playing so that he might glorify God through the platform he had been given.

That decision restored his love for the sport and set him on a path that eventually brought him back to the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup quarterback. When injury opened the door in the 2017 postseason, Foles stepped in and led the team to victory in Super Bowl LII, earning MVP honors. What looked like the end of a career became the stage on which God’s strength was displayed in human weakness, reminding us that surrender in prayer often opens the way for unexpected grace.

A prominent Pew Research Center study concludes that Christians could make up less than half of the U.S. population by 2070 if recent demographic trends continue. In 2020, Christians comprised roughly 64% of Americans, down from about 90% in the early 1990s. Depending on how religious shifts progress, Pew’s mathematical models project that the Christian share will shrink to between 35% and 54% over the next few decades, while the religiously unaffiliated—often called “nones”—are projected to climb to between 34% and 52%.

The primary driver behind this shift is “religious switching,” which describes individuals who change their religious identity as they move into adulthood. The study finds that approximately 31% of people raised as Christians choose to become unaffiliated between the ages of 15 and 29, whereas only 21% of those raised with no religion switch to Christianity. Combined with generational transmission patterns, birth rates, and migration metrics, this net loss of younger adherents means the traditional Christian majority is steadily giving way to a much more secularized American landscape.

In Philippians 4:6, Saint Paul offers a clear path through life’s worries: “Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Rather than letting fear or restless concern take hold, we are invited to bring every need—great or small—before the Lord in honest prayer, joining our petitions with grateful acknowledgment of His gifts. This simple exchange of anxiety for trust opens the heart to the peace that only God can give, reminding us that nothing is too ordinary or too heavy to place in His hands.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII reformed the calendar because the old Julian system had drifted about ten days off from the true solar year. This mattered greatly for keeping the date of Easter aligned with the spring equinox, as the Church had determined centuries earlier. To correct the accumulated error, Catholic countries that adopted the new Gregorian calendar that October simply skipped ten days: the day after Thursday, October 4, 1582, became Friday, October 15. That means the dates from October 5 through 14 never existed in those places. So today’s date—October 8—444 years earlier, in 1582, was one of the days that simply vanished from the calendar.

James 5:16 teaches that believers should confess their sins to one another and pray for each other so that they may be healed, emphasizing that the earnest prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. In context, it encourages mutual accountability, intercession, and faith-filled prayer within the Christian community as means of spiritual (and sometimes physical) restoration, underscoring that sincere, righteous prayer carries real power before God.

In Mark 8:36 Jesus asks, “For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” He is pointing out that no amount of worldly success—wealth, power, fame, or comfort—can ever make up for the loss of one’s soul. The things of this earth are temporary and pass away, while the soul is eternal and will face judgment.

This verse comes right after Jesus calls His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. He is teaching that true life is found only in faithful discipleship, even when it costs us. Choosing temporary gain over obedience to God is a tragic trade that leaves a person empty forever.
