LINDSTRÖM | Minnesota

There aren’t many Minnesota skylines with a giant Swedish coffee pot sitting above Main Street.

Lindström’s identity reaches back to the Swedish immigrants who settled the area beginning in the 1850s. The town was platted in 1880 and incorporated in 1894, and generations later that heritage is still woven throughout the community. Today Lindström calls itself “America’s Little Sweden,” with Swedish-inspired landmarks, traditions and architecture throughout town.

Above downtown sits one of its most recognizable landmarks, the coffee-pot water tower. The city itself calls the tower iconic, and its Swedish-inspired design has become an unmistakable part of Lindström’s identity.

For this dinerlight piece, I wanted to capture more than a single building. I took the view down Main Street and let the town unfold beneath the coffee pot, with storefronts falling into deep blues and teals, warm light spilling onto the sidewalks, and the tower glowing above everything. I added stars and geometric clouds to push the scene further into the dinerlight world while keeping the character of downtown intact.
