For this week’s drill, the officers of Chelsea H&L led an introductory search and rescue drill in the bay, utilizing a maze and simulated smoke conditions.

Members of Chelsea H&L, Jackson Engine, and Highland Hose worked together to practice search techniques and build familiarity with operating in low-visibility conditions.

Marking Chen’s first museum solo exhibition, Rooms by the Sea brings her vibrant, contemporary view of Cape Cod into conversation with the work and legacies of Edward Hopper and Josephine Nivison Hopper.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
At the center of the exhibition is Chen’s large-scale double portrait Rooms by the Sea (2026), a direct tribute to Edward Hopper’s iconic 1951 painting of the same title and his Truro studio.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Chen has spent summers on Cape Cod for the past decade. What began as an annual getaway evolved into an immersive project, yielding nearly 40 canvases painted outdoors across Truro, Eastham and Provincetown. As a first-generation American artist, Chen explores this familiar landscape through questions of memory, belonging, assimilation and the American Dream.⁣⁣

⁣“From Nighthawks to Nyack” takes viewers inside Edward Hopper’s childhood home and explores the early life and creative beginnings of one of America’s most celebrated artists.⁣

⁣Our Executive Director, Kathie Bennewitz, spoke with News 12’s Scott Cohen and gave viewers a tour of the house, including Hopper’s first studio and original artifacts such as his bicycle and art materials. The story also highlights the many ways visitors of all ages can experience Hopper’s legacy here in Nyack today.⁣

Heading to the Nyack Street Fair this Sunday, October 11th? 🍂

✏️ Sat, Oct 10, we’re kicking things off with Hopper’s Nyack “Flash Sketch Mob™” led by artist and Nyack Sketch Log creator Bill Batson.⁣
⁣
Bring a sketchbook and spend the day drawing around Nyack, capturing the places, people and details that catch your eye. All ages and experience levels are welcome.⁣
