Snorkeling with the giant goldfish like Garibaldi fish. A killer experience!

Although feeding wildlife is generally bad and illegal, feeding fish in the waters off Avalon is generally not considered bad and is a unique legal exception in California where the state explicitly permits it to encourage marine life viewing.

Leopard Sharks aggregate in large numbers off La Jolla Shores from July to September but you can see them there year round. The summer aggregation is caused by the calm, warm waters, attracting females to give birth.

Dolphins!

Feeding common dolphin come to our @sdwhalewatch boat to ride the bow wave. We had an amazing day including great views of Fin Whales, the second largest animal on the planet, and two species of dolphins.

Super Bloom 2026 in Anza Borrego Desert State Park!

Go as soon as you can. The bloom came early this year due to early rains in December. Usually, it is late February to early April. But, these flowers will have faded by late February.

Tide Pooling in San Diego is awesome!

Low tides of winter in San Diego bring a popular and fun activity for locals and visitors… tide pooling! This is from last weekend when I took a group of friends. I even said on our way down the cliff that I wanted to find an octopus, and we did! There are lots of beautiful marine animals to see. Tip- find small rock overhangs where animals can hide and then wait quietly for animals to come out, just like this octopus!
