Recently, we shared a little about our organization and how we got started. Now it’s time to go deeper.

From the very beginning, our motto has been simple: go deep, not wide.

Our top priority is getting to know every patient, every family, and every community we serve. We believe meaningful, trusting relationships are the foundation for lasting impact. When we take the time to truly listen and understand, we can better learn what resources and programs will make a sustainable difference.

We believe quality time is always extremely valuable and that every patient who walks into our clinic deserves to be truly understood and that’s something that will never change.

We are back and like always had a truly special experience in El Salvador! During this trip our team came together as family and dedicated every single drop of energy into the patients that visited our clinics each day. We saw soooo many familiar patient faces and a lot of new faces too! Spending unlimited time with each patient is truly something we prioritize and this week it even meant finishing up our clinics after the sun went down which was a fun, new challenge! We continue to be incredibly grateful for all of our wonderful volunteers, partners, and supporters! 🫶🏻

Hi everyone! 👋 We’ve welcomed a lot of new supporters to our pages recently, so we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and share a little more about who we are.

Based in Richmond, Extra Mile Pediatrics was founded in 2018 by Kimball and Jeff Mapp with a mission to provide repeated pediatric care to patients and families in Central America who face significant barriers to healthcare.

EMP, a small nonprofit, has grown tremendously thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, partners, and supporters. On each trip, our teams care for approximately 300–350 patients, bringing our total to more than 6,000 patient visits to date.

One of the most important parts of our mission is that we return to the same communities every six months. By building lasting relationships and trust, we’re able to provide consistent care, monitor children’s growth and health over time, and support families far beyond a single visit. Every clinic includes comprehensive care such as vision screenings, nutrition support, health education, and preventive care.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve these communities and to share our time, skills, and resources where they’re needed most.

Another year of growth, another year of impact, and one year of Fueling Futures!

This program has become such an important part of our work, and we’re incredibly grateful to have the support and opportunity to provide supplemental nutrition to families who need it most.

Because we practice repeated care, returning to the same communities every six months, we’ve had the privilege of watching children grow over time. Through these visits, we’ve been able to identify children who would benefit from additional nutritional support.

Over the past year, we’ve provided nutrition bundles to these families every other month, helping fill nutritional gaps and support healthier futures.

As we celebrate our 8th birthday, Fueling Futures is one of the initiatives we’re especially proud to highlight. It represents sustainable change, long-term care, growth, and lasting impact.

Real change doesn’t happen in a single visit, it happens by showing up repeatedly again and again. Thank you all for making this possible!

Have you heard? This week is #PeriodPovertyAwarenessWeek, and we want to share a little about what that means and what we’re doing to help fight it.

Period products can be extremely difficult to access around the world, especially in communities where significant barriers exist. The lack of access can have serious physical, mental, and emotional impacts on menstruators, which in turn affects entire communities.

Over the last two years, we’ve partnered with @sylvias_sisters and @laredelsalvador to provide reusable menstrual pads, share menstrual health education, and create economic opportunities in communities in El Salvador where these barriers exist.

The Extra Mile 5K is our biggest annual fundraiser, and this year, @oakvalleylh supported us as a Diamond Sponsor, helping make this our most successful 5K yet!

We wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes footage from their clinic dedication day in El Salvador this past April to show the incredible impact of their support.

Oak Valley Custom Handscapes helped cover a full clinic day of care and supplies at a clinic site where we were able to serve more patients than ever before!

One month ago we hosted our 3rd Annual Extra Mile 5K, and it’s time to officially recognize and celebrate our biggest participating group... @weoffthecouch!

They showed up STRONG with 90 runners, plus an incredible crew of volunteers and supporters cheering every step of the way. This is our clinic dedication to them!

This is what community looks like. This is what impact feels like.

When we say this support changes lives, we mean it. The participation of WeOffTheCouch helped cover a full clinic day of care and supplies during our pediatric medical trip to El Salvador in April.

We are beyond grateful for you. Thank you for showing up, giving back, and believing in this mission. Together, we are breaking barriers and making real change happen!

At Extra Mile Pediatrics we commit to visiting the same communities REPEATEDLY so that we can build trust and relationships with the families who live there.
