Summer is well and truly here in Cornwall - the thrift is now mostly dry and dusty, and the grasses are growing long. Whilst I’m a self confessed thrift freak, a little part of me mourns the all-too-quick passing of these candy-floss blooms, but there are an abundance of other wildflowers lined up in the wings to flood in and beautify and soften the cliff faces, hedgerows and verges.

Besides, they still have a certain faded beauty when they’re dry as paper, rustling as the sea air gently blows them 🌸

Happy Summer Solstice from Cornwall! Today, we will see the longest period of sunlight, and the sun will appear at its highest in the sky - day will be almost equal in length to night, as the sun crosses the celestial equator and moves southward into the northern hemisphere.

Although there is much to celebrate about the summer solstice, it also marks the time the sun stops moving northward in the sky, and the days will become steadily shorter until we reach the Winter Solstice at which point days will start to lengthen out again…..

At the moment, there aren’t enough hours in the day, so I intend on making the most of every drop of sunlight and sunshine we are blessed with, and on enjoying a lovely long summer!

The montbretia is in full bloom, which means it’s summer proper now - just in case the wall-to-wall sunshine for weeks hadn’t given you any clues!

I’ve barely posted at all this month, and figure I’m due to be punished by Instagram for being so absent - so if you see this, hi, and if you like or comment *thank you*!

Life has been so busy these past weeks, and it’s been impossible to fall into a routine since losing my pup. Hoping a bit of a pattern and normality resume soon, but in the meantime thanks for sticking around 🥰

It might be HOT, but it’s looking ridiculously beautiful out there - the sea has been so calm and still, and the most stunning shade of turquoise!

The coast path is dry and dusty, and the pinks are a distant memory now, just their dried and faded flower heads remain (which I actually find quite pretty!)…..thankfully, there seem to be an abundance of sea carrots this year! Watch this space for more sea carrot spam!

Midsummer magic - whilst the days have been nothing but clear blue skies without a cloud in sight, by the evening wispy cloud has gathered above, which for me is the best possible result for a pretty afterglow light show!

J U N E - a month of light and life ☀️

Snippets from June when life returned and sunshine was abundant. It really was beautiful out there with constant sunshine and heat, and the Duchy became the most magical place!

1) The best colour matched paint on a bench! It’s the same gorgeous hue as the sea at Trevone on a June day.
2) Beach days out with visiting family, and an attempt to sledge down the dunes at Holywell (unsuccessful)!
3) London trip to choose a big birthday present (very spoiled!)
4) St Paul’s Cathedral on a summers day - the most beautiful building!
5) Home to wild north Cornwall and a walk at Duckpool
6) Boscastle is silent as England play their first World Cup game
7 & 8) Trevone waters - spot my husband with his snorkelling gear
9 - 11) Birthday dinner at @uglybutterflybyah was phenomenal, and even better than expected. The most welcoming and attentive team of staff there made it so special.
12) Afterglow on the longest day in Newquay
13) Summer on the @southwestcoastpath - dried flowers and grasses roll gently sway on warm sea air

Sometimes Cornwall just doesn’t look real!

Saturday was my birthday, and a pretty big birthday at that, so I was indulged by family who let me drag them all out on a very hot coastal yomp to Holywell to walk the coast path to Polly Joke - it couldn’t have looked more beautiful in the June sunshine, and we even spied a seal in the water basking in the warm sea.

An absolutely perfect day, followed by a stupendous meal at @uglybutterflybyah in Newquay…..if this is 50 (jeez!) I’m loving it so far!

Just missed sunset last night at Boscastle, but that’s ok because it was lovely and quiet……..apparently due to some football being on! Anyone watch it?!

The pinks are pretty much done now, and the few that are left are barely clinging onto their colour in this heat - I’m a bit sad they’re gone again for another year, but on the plus side there were LOADS of sea carrot blooms to take their place!
