A set of photos from a recent community discussion @artexte called "Housing Justice and the Arts Today." Thank you to everyone at ARTEXTE for the collaboration!

A key goal of this event was to engage with a wonderful artist run centre on the critical struggle for housing justice today.

This is a set of photos from the event, @abdelaliessaouis took most, I snapped a few on my phone. The event included a live silk-screening session of a design reading HOUSING JUSTICE NOW, educator and artist Christeen Francis @missprints, who also works with @justseeds coordinated the live printing and also spoke, which was wonderful. The design came out of the organizing process toward the housing justice gathering last spring @housingjustice.now

There was a particular focus on the impacts of urban displacement through "development" projects, like in Chinatown, impacts that are being challenged across generations in the community through projects like @jiafoundationmtl which Parker Mah @eyedea.ca spoke on. Also Black historian David Austin, author of FEAR OF A BLACK NATION @btlbooks spoke about the ways that gentrification displaced Black artists and community members across time in Little Burgundy.

Thank you to the Social Justice Centre for supporting this event @socialjusticeconcordia

There will be a zine on housing justice launching on April 22 @shiftconcordia in collaboration with @raahlab.concordia @seizetogether @ckutmusic @cupe_scfp @asfaconcordia and with support from the @socialjusticeconcordia

Thank you to everyone who joined, also a shout out to @julesbugiel who was planning to join the panel but got super sick and couldn't talk that day, next time!

Also the event was recorded, so stay tuned for the recording to be broadcast on @ckutmusic and also a small fanzine based on the ideas / comments that people shared during the discussion, yes! taken in ARTEXTE by @eyedea.ca

Table ronde avec Stefan Christoff | 25 mars 2026

Panel with Stefan Christoff | March 25th, 2026
from 6 pm to 8 pm @ Artexte
[this event will be held in english]

Artexte invites you to a gathering to address and discuss the realities of the housing crisis and gentrification in Montréal, co-presented by the Social Justice Centre at Concordia University.

This event aims to create space to consider stories, narratives and experiences of how these points of crisis in our city impact the arts and artists.

In addition to the panel, selected documents from the Artexte collection that speak to the issues being presented will be shared at the event to further discussions on the ways artists and artist-run centres have responded and at times contributed to the housing crisis and gentrification, past and present. by @eyedea.ca

HUGE 多謝 // THANKS to everyone on the production team whose determination, infinite patience and hard work made this all possible.
