When I was in highschool, my mom bought me an iPod shuffle. I had all the Vybz Kartel classics loaded up, but could never fathom doing dancehall myself. One day, my cousin Hopewest sent me a song. "Way You Grind" by Nawlage. I went down the rabbit hole, "Take Your Breath Away", "Jessy's Bed", "I Don't Dance", hit after hit. I was inspired by the fact that he was an American singer using dancehall riddims, something I never thought possible at the time. I've told him this while he was alive, but he's the reason I started making music. Then one random day 9 years ago, he reached out to me saying "You have a song with everyone BUT me, let's work". The fact that I got to work with you, and perform with you was humbling to say the least. You were my greatest mentor in this life.

Thank you for inspiring me to start music, and thank you for all you've done for me. Rest in peace Nawlage. 2k5 forever. by @eyon416
