Have a much needed trip up north for some solitude and natural beauty. Caught a couple nice rainbows and a cutthroat on the Upper O, and caught some rainbows and browns on McGee Creek. Fun time.

Took a quick trip up to Kennedy Meadows a couple weeks ago. Caught a handful of trout - the usual mix of browns and golden/rainbow hybrids - but water levels are very low. Probably not worth another visit until we get some rains. Saw a couple larger trout, but in these low water conditions, one's chances of catching one are slim to none. Still a beautiful day in a beautiful place.

Explored a local spot the other day. Got a few, but water is very low and I probably won't fish local much more until fall rains. Very beautiful and secluded. I added a picture of a super cool moth I saw at a friend's house the other night.

Had a fun day chasing local SoCal wild trout with my buddy @darylwhiting77 . Hiked a lot of miles, caught some solid fish, and got to see a beautiful rattlesnake and two cute newts. Possibly caught my record for tiniest fish. All in all a fun day, even though I lost the biggest fish of the day at the last pool - a fat 15-16" fish that I caught last time.

Had a blast chasing bass on the fly, with my buddy, Steve, up at Isabella a few days ago. Found a perfect cove, protected from the wind, with thousands of shad being stalked by hundreds of bass. I also caught two fat catfish and one crappie. I'm pretty new to bass fishing and this was a great trip to stimulate interest and build confidence. Thanks to Dano (@danocampo3 )from the @kernriverflyshop for the tips. They paid off.

Remembered to add this post from a couple weeks ago, before it gets lost in my ongoing flyfishing adventures. I made a short afternoon trip to a tiny tributary in the Upper Piru watershed, which I had explored once before, a few years ago. Great to see it was full of small wild native trout, eager to take both dries and nymphs, even though the stream in many places was less than 2' across. Beautiful and remote.

I had a great trip to Bishop last week. Met up with my buddy Chris and his son, Hudson (@huds_fishin )for the first day and night. Flows were very high, with early runoff, but fishing was phenomenal the first day. The brown with the huge shoulders was one of Hudson's many catches. That young man can fish!
The 2nd day it was mediocre, so I went and explored the gorge for several hours. It was my first time there, and I loved the rugged remote setting and caught a couple decent fish. Thank you to Luke from @goldentroutguidingco , who I met in the canyon and gave me some useful tips.
My third day, fishing on the Owens was a bust, so I headed to Kennedy Meadows to check out the South Fork of the Kern. It was also inundated with massive runoff and totally unfishable, so I headed up the pass and caught some little golden jewels in a raging bushwacky creek. All in all an excellent time and great way to remember my beautiful Mom, who passed 3 years ago - I took those epic night photos right around when she left this plane 3 years ago.

Had a challenging, but ultimately successful, day on a local creek that used to be our (@darylwhiting77 ) main "honey hole", when I lived in the city. I hadn't visited since the Bobcat fire impacted the area a few years back. After what is now a long drive, and rigorous hike, I started off the day by breaking off the top 15" of my flyrod before I made my first cast. I wasn't going to waste an hour climbing back up to my truck to get another rod, so I got have a frustrating day if trying to cast a broken rod- luckily the creek is small. Fishing was pretty slow compared to past visits, but ended up landing 7 or 8 fish - all but one were solid colored up bucks. I covered a ton of very bushwacky ground, took a hard spill in the creek where I took on water, and was at a point of total physical exhaustion by the time I made it back to my truck right at full dark, but had a great time, after basically getting skunked my last 4 local outings on blown out local spots.
