epiphyllum oxypetalum (the lady of the night cactus) blooms only after dusk and fades by dawn, a beauty that exists for just one night🪽 by @f8888th

pov: you take a solo trip to santa barbara to see khruangbin, a spontaneous decision you made two days before their show.

you book a one night stay at the dreamiest bed and breakfast. free wine, cookies, and the intense scent of citrus and jasmine.

the bathroom light hits just right. you’re one juneshine in (desert cooler… very rare find), primer drying, screaming into your phone about how khruangbin means airplane. and how airplane’s music saved you many times.

you bought a ticket for the highest nosebleeds but somehow finesse barricade. the crowd sees you’re alone and sweeps you into their dance circle.

you laugh, cry, pray the whole set. you blow a kiss to @lauraleezy. she catches it.

the next morning, you eat french toast in the garden, silently thanking god for it all. you say goodbye to the sweet owners and the fish in the pond.

before heading back, you stop at a hidden metaphysical shop. they have an oasis in the back that offers free incense, tea, and a journal with entries from strangers that make you produce more tears. you take a few moments to journal your own thoughts.

one last stop: the beach. you gather shells and listen to the waves, just like your ancestors once did. you leave with a sunburn, souvenirs and a peace of mind.

the whole ride home you can only think, “this is what life is about” by @f8888th

happy solar return to me ☼ 🌊

i’m so incredibly grateful that i get to experience another year on this earth. if this birthday was any indication of what’s ahead, i trust 26 is going to be soft, colorful, whimsical, abundant, and full of moments that remind me how beautiful life can be.

a special thank you to @copperfeel for taking the time to share the story behind your work. i love my new copper necklace even more knowing the intention and craftsmanship that went into creating it. our conversation was one of my favorite little moments from the day. ♡

unfortunately mr. & mrs. winner don’t have an instagram i can tag, but if you ever find yourself wandering through the eucalyptus trees at sawdust, i highly recommend stopping by their booth. such a talented couple they are.

(fun fact: every booth at sawdust is hand built by the artist who exhibits there, which made the whole place feel even more magical!)
