This is what I look like on the outside. Fit, healthy, normal. What you can’t see is what’s been going on inside for the last eight years.

Most people have never heard of LARS. Lower anterior resection syndrome. It’s what can happen after certain bowel surgeries, when part of what used to work back there just doesn’t anymore.

I’ve been living with it for eight years. Nobody can see it. I look healthy, I look fit, I get on with things. But there’s a part of me that was essentially taken out of action, and every single day involves managing something most people never have to think about.

Travel has always been the hardest part. The anxiety around being far from a bathroom, around flights and long days with no easy exit, it’s real and it’s exhausting.

This year I went to Italy. And for the first time in a long time, I came home feeling like I’d actually gotten through it. Not perfectly. Just through.

These days I’ve got it down. It’s mostly behind me now, but I still deal with it daily, some days easier than others.

I wanted to highlight, as I have a few people follow me and reach out that are going through bowel cancer.

I was given zero information about this before my surgery, and I don’t want that to happen to someone else.

And wanted to remind them to keep pushing, it will get better. You are not alone.

And to everyone else, if something doesn’t feel right, go get checked out by your GP. Don’t sit on it. Catching things early is everything.

LARS is real. And so is what comes after it.

Right. I made an app.
For years, the most common question I get asked is "What should I be planting right now?" My monthly planting posts have always been among my most popular — and I still get asked every single month, every season, without fail.
So I built the answer.

Look, let's be honest — the cost of living is absolutely cooked right now. Groceries are expensive, eating well is expensive, and growing your own food has never made more sense. But only if you're growing the right things at the right time. Otherwise, you're just wasting money on seedlings that go nowhere.
Plant Now fixes that. Tell it where you live, and it tells you exactly what to plant this month — so every dollar you spend at the nursery actually turns into food on your table.
Australia, UK, and US all covered. Every vegetable comes with everything you need to actually grow it well — sowing, harvesting, watering, companion planting, and a tip from me personally.
It's $4.99. One coffee. And it'll save you a hell of a lot more than that in wasted seedlings and supermarket bills.

Now here's the thing — I'm an independent guy putting out an independent app, and reviews make an enormous difference. So if you download it and leave me an honest review, DM me a screenshot and I'll personally send you a free copy of the Veggie Patch School Guide Book. An app plus an ebook for the price of a flat white.
Help a brother out. Download it, leave a review, DM me the screenshot.

October is when the garden really opens up. Tomatoes, beans, cucumber, zucchini, corn, capsicum, eggplant, basil — the summer crew is ready to go. This is also a great month for herbs. Fill your beds, fill your windowsills. Don't hold back.

It's swarm season. That cluster of bees signify new life. Spring is in the air. When the hive out grows itself, it multiplies. Don't panic, they are harmless in this state, as they no longer have a home of honey to protect. They also have full bellies as they just ate for the mission they are about to embark. In this state they are now just hanging around until then scouts come back with a new ideal home to occupy.

The worst thing you can do is call pest control. Get in contact with your local bee keeping club and they will send someone out. Most should collect it for free, as a swarm is a gift!

Courage doesn’t originally mean fearless. It comes from a Latin word for heart. It once simply meant telling the whole truth of your heart. End of Leo season, fifty years in, a trip to Italy behind me, and I hope I have the courage to keep letting my heart keep expanding. I hope that resonates with some of you.

I so so love Rome... It’s been about a month now and I’m final going back through the photos to sort, and the selection stood out to me mainly because of the light, the way it’s reflected.

I also love how a photo is often just a reflection of the person taking it.

Whatever you’re looking for, will show up. The hardest thing sometimes is actually knowing what to look for. ;-)

Spring is coming and August is your signal to start getting ready. Broad beans, peas, strawberries, asparagus and artichokes are all on the list. If you're in Brisbane or north, you can start easing back into beans, cucumber and corn. The garden is waking up.
