The Miracle of Collecting

I came across this quote about collecting, and it changed something in me.

“The miracle of collecting, after all, is that what you really collect is yourself.”

Collecting is a form of self-expression. A way of talking about yourself without actually having to say anything. Such an amazing way to do so, if you ask me.

Collecting is, in fact, sort of miraculous for the collector. It becomes a form of self-discovery, a way of materializing pieces of yourself through the things you choose to keep close.

Because what draws you to one object and not another? Somewhere in your choices are your memories, your curiosities, your obsessions, your traumas, and even the person who you are becoming.

How incredible. Tyg💛 by @fabiolozaa

Sofia Muljat: Este rincón, mi rincón @casasantaana 🤍

If you don’t know about the existence of Casa Santa Ana, today is your lucky day.

Located in Panama’s old town, you find Fundación Casa Santa Ana, one of my favorite places in Panama. Their mission goes beyond presenting beautiful exhibitions. Through educational programs, they bring art and culture closer to the surrounding community, and through their residency program, they invite international artists to immerse themselves in Panama and create from what they experience here. The culture, the flora, the food, the people.

Seeing Panama through an artist’s eyes makes you notice the beauty that has always existed around you.

Right now they’re exhibiting the work of Sofia Muljat. Getting her inspiration from classical paintings, she transforms familiar scenes into surreal, dreamlike worlds. Her paintings feel like a dream. They are oneiric🩵

If you find yourself in Panama, don’t miss this exhibition. It is on view until September 6. Thank you Casa Santa Ana for what you do for Panama🤍 y gracias a mi partner de siempre por acompañarme en todas🩵🩵🩵🩵 by @fabiolozaa

If I ever go missing, find me in Ca’ del Bosco.

I arrived to Ca’ del Bosco thinking nothing of the place and going to taste some sparkling wine. I left with my mind completely blown.

Ca’ del Bosco is a family owned sparkling wine producer in Franciacorta. The estate is completely beautiful and filled with art and design.

There is a contest that the president of the company holds in which he invites artists to participate and make a piece for the estate. The coolest part about this is the curation and where they put the art. Like for example, the huge rhino hanging from the roof in the middle of the factory. Completely insane🦏

There is a carefully designed experience in Ca’ del Bosco where you enter a room and you can experience the senses of Franciacorta. Smell, touch, vision, sound, and finally taste when it comes to the wine tasting.

Everything in the tour and in the experience was controlled with an Ipad. Every door and every light was controlled with it. This made me wonder the amount of hours spent on coding and how fun would that job be.

This is one if not the coolest place ive ever been! It mixes art and design with wine making, what else can I ask for.

If you ever find yourself randomly in Franciacorta dont miss Ca’ del Bosco! I could tell you all about it but you must see it for yourself🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷cheers tyg by @fabiolozaa

We could’ve had a brighter, better Last Supper… but that’s kind of Leonardo’s fault.

Instead of using the traditional fresco technique, Leonardo decided to experiment. He painted on a dry wall using his own method. It looked incredible at first but the paint began deteriorating almost immediately.

Ironically, one of the greatest masterpieces in history started fading during Leonardo’s own lifetime. They say that the paint deteriorated so much only in its first 20 years.

What makes it even cooler is where it lives. The Last Supper wasn’t painted for a museum it was created directly on the wall of the dining hall of the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Imagine eating every day beneath this!!!!!! Wow

Behind The Last Supper there were many sand bags that would help if there were bombings so that the piece would not collapse, and they did! Imagine if we would have lost this masterpiece to war.

I could talk for hours about this piece, every single hidden meaning in it, and every feeling it evoked in me. Its where art and religion meet, which is everything I need and my purpose.

As I said before, I could talk for hours how this made me feel but I guess you need to go and experience it yourself. Make sure to get your tickets minimum 4 months before because if not it will be fully booked hahahahaha. Tyg💛 by @fabiolozaa

An ode to Italy and its churches.

Over the past six months, I visited many churches across Europe, especially in Italy.

I became obsessed and was constantly astonished by the fresco technique.

The paintings on the walls depicted scenes from the Bible for people who couldn’t read. That was what art was all about. It had a purpose. It wasn’t just about aesthetics.

If you’re ever in Milan, you must visit Chiesa di San Vittore al Corpo. It is one of the most detailed churches I have ever stepped into. In its dome, there are more than 80 painted angels. The level of detail is simply incredible.

Thank you, Italy, for teaching me how to appreciate places like these.Tyg💛 by @fabiolozaa

Did you know that in Milano you can find a church that is a contemporary art museum? Both at the same time?

Chiesa di San Fedele is my favorite hidden gem in Milano

This is a church that holds contemporary art installations and exhibitions, bridging different art styles from the Renaissance to Modern art.

The museum was created around the idea of bringing together ancient, modern, and contemporary art in one spiritual setting❤️‍🔥

The story of the church was that there was once a priest that liked art and was close friends with Lucio Fontana. Fontana was a famous italian paintor very famous for his slits which you can see on slide 7. He asked Fontana to paint some paintings for the church. The priest started to collect art and since then it is a church and a museum, both at the same time.

In the cripta of the church there are so many contemporary art pieces that crash with the church’s architecture. It is insane.

Where the chorus seats, the seats are made out of wood and carved from the 18th century. On top it has three abstract panels meaning the father, son and holy spirit. These two bridge thousands of years apart. Amazing❤️‍🔥🩷

This is one of my favorite places in Milano. If you ever have the chance to go is a must! Tyg💛💛💛💛 taken in Chiesa di San Fedele by @fabiolozaa

“Le Alchimiste” by Anselm Kiefer @palazzorealemilano

This exhibition by Kiefer is one of a kind. In the Sala delle Cariatidi, a bomb-damaged room, Kiefer’s work is exposed, creating an incredible contrast that will give you chills.

Le Alchimiste portrays forgotten women in the history of science, alchemy, medicine, and knowledge.

It’s an homage to them. Women like Caterina Sforza and Mary Anne Atwood are depicted in these paintings.

The fact that this exhibition is in the Sala delle Cariatidi, a room affected by WWII bombings, changes everything about this exhibition. All of these historical events and figures in one single room. It’s just like time travel.

In the room, there are damaged female Caryatid sculptures (which were ancient Greek sculptures depicting women). Do you think placing these pieces about forgotten women in a room with more forgotten women was a coincidence? NO, EXCELLENT CURATION 🤎

If you have the opportunity to see Le Alchimiste at Palazzo Reale until September, don’t miss out!

Incredible! Can you hear the music….Tyg 💛💛💛💛💛💛 by @fabiolozaa

Ever since Design Week ive been severly depressed… just kidding

A week in where Milano becomes an exhibition. As an upcoming designer, this has been one of the most amazing experiences ive ever had.

Salone del Mobile, the biggest furniture show in Italy was just a dream. Thousands of show rooms, each with their own personality. Thousands of different chairs and sofas. It was a designers dream.

Università Degli Studi is a university located in the middle of Milano in a beautiful old palace. For design week, this palace becomes an open exhibition in where artists and designers come together to make activations of their work and brands. Every installation was its own world, its own experience. Trully magical.

Design truly is everywhere.

A conversation with Fra Angelico and Rothko

500 years apart yet so close

This is the first time I write about an exhibition I didnt see. I tried to go see it but I arrived too late and they closed the door on my face… its okey

The current exhibition of Rothko a Firenze, covers more than 70 works by the artist throughout Firenze. In this case, this is at the convento San Marco where these Fra Angelico frescos are displayed.

Rothko spent a long time in Firenze, studying and learning, getting inspiration from the Italian masters. He was very captivated by Fra Angelico and his Renaissance art.

This exhibition feels so special to me. One of the most important exhbitions and curations in modern art history.

500 years apart yet so close, and it is not about the centimeters between them.

Rothko was so inspired by Fra Angelico, you can see it in the colors… Mark Rothko’s work, though abstract, shares a spiritual intensity with Renaissance art. Like Fra Angelico, he uses color and light to evoke contemplation and transcendence, turning his canvases into modern spaces for meditation. Both artists aimed for the same thing, evoking silence and stillness

The old master, Fra Angelico seemed so far away from the contemporary until now.

I believe that this show is like experiencing time travel. So many years ago but somehow in the present. That is my favorite thing about art. Artworks open a passage in time and defy the laws of it. Looking exactly in the eyes of the past.

The whimsical vibe of being a Rothko fan🟨🟧🟥⬛️🟪🟦🟫⬜️

Once again I had the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to go see Rothko a Firenze. An exhibition showcasing more than 70 paintings throughout Firenze. The biggest Rothko exhibition in Italy.

Rothko is not understood by many. Some people dont get it but the power that these paintings hold is just insane. They are so powerful. So emotional.

Rothko killed himself before being discovered by the world. Not knowing how many people adore and admire his work.

The vibe at this exhibition was like one I have yet seen. Actual fans. People giving their full attention to the paintings, the attention that the paintings themselves are asking for. People put on their glasses and they would stand close in order to see the brush strokes. People that were there to see the art. It was magical. There was sort of a hectic vibe aswell but it was just so amazing.

Getting to see these paintings in palazzo strozzi, showing the contrast of the curation with a very antique building yet very contemporary paintings was an amazing experience and an even greater curatorial decision to experience.

Rothko actually spent a long time in Firenze where he studied paint masters like Fra Angelico, who he got so much inspiration from. You actually can see Renaissance colors in his paintings. He got all of this in his time at Firenze.

What a blessing it was to see these in real time! Tysmg❤️💛🩷 by @fabiolozaa

Design Museum in Copenhaguen!!

Very very cool. An experience that guides you towards the bases of design and how design is everywhere even if you dont see it.

Everything is or should be designed for the user and with a specific purpose, often to simplify things!!!

The museum had an amazing display of posters from japan! These designs were on another level! The attention to detail and the intention behind each piece was amazing! Also! The printing was fantastic. Do you know how hard it is to print so that a graphic design can look like that? Well, it is extremely hard.

My favorite part was a temporary exhibition they had on Hokusai! The japanese ukiyo-e printmaker master!! He is known for many artworks such as the wave which you have probably seen. I love his work so much because it influenced so many modern artists like Van Gogh and Klimt! These prints do define time and space! WOW
