Krakow turned out to be one of the best surprises this summer.

What I loved most was the balance: a city buzzing on the weekend, yet full of pockets of calm if you just slow down and look.

Most of the trip was just walking around and getting lost with a camera—or rather, two cameras. Fully played the octopus character this time, shooting digital and film simultaneously thanks to mild airport CT-scanner paranoia.

This frame is easily one of my favorites from the trip. Cheers.

Only one month late 🙂‍↔️ These are the images I have just submitted for the Open Call “International Photography Award Stanislao Farri”. The deadline was August 9th, but obviously in my head that meant September 9th.

This says a little about me, right?
Anyway, I’ll just leave this post as a reminder to myself. Of what you may ask? I’m gonna be honest. I have no idea.

So… The Homage
Stanislao Farri was a master at reducing the landscape to its most rigorous, absolute geometries. Submitting a black-and-white project that dissects the structural clash between nature and industrialization felt like the most honest tribute to his visual grammar and his lifelong study of our territory.
The project name is “Corrispondenze”.

The intolerance towards the industrial footprint that alters these lands has always driven me to look away, to seek out beauty and focus on that.
For years, I experienced the anthropization of the landscape as a physical aggression from which to seek refuge. Corrispondenze arises from the need to confront this feeling head-on.

One day, I stopped dodging what I felt and decided to pause, to observe, almost clinically, the places where I live, what surrounds me.

I felt the urge to dissect the territory and its entities. In this process, I found a network of hidden correspondences, kindred or opposing parts communicating with each other through shapes and dimensions. I observed the natural element, the artificial infrastructure, and the animal presence begin to respond to one another on a structural level.

This sequence simply documents a new (to me) anatomy of the landscape, raw and essential, which I have finally decided to look straight in the eye.

Skipped a hike a couple of weeks ago due to a bad weather forecast, only to witness some of the best weather of the whole summer.

Naturally, this time we decided to take our chances, despite a 90% rain forecast.

It did not go well.

I had a Canon 6D with me, which did an awesome job. Until it started raining. But I was all like: “Hey, this camera is weather-sealed! Despite its age, it can shoot in the rain and it’s gonna be amazing!”

Well, it wasn’t.
The camera started freaking out: menu inaccessible, shooting by itself, going completely crazy. By the time I got to the car, it was basically dead.

While my anxiety started to rise slowly—only ever so slightly calmed by the sweet, warm embrace of a new reason to give a green light to my G.A.S.—I came up with the brilliant idea of drying the camera with a hair dryer.

Luckily, we live in the amazing age of AI and I quickly learned it was the worst idea I could come up with. I also learned I could try a silica gel bath instead.

So here’s my happy ending: the camera resuscitated after a 72-hour coma thanks to the incredible powers of silica gel zip-lock incubation.
