All the waiting, all the preparation, all the anxiety backstage. This was the moment when it was all worth it.
Yes, more than a contest, it's a show and a show is nothing without its audience. Thank you for being there, then and all the other times, and for showing your support in the form of applause. You might feel like it's just clapping, but it's fuel to go on.

Also, thanks to @unholyomega for the video and @v_fernandes_tube for the photos.

@daividjones was the presenter and, as always, a true showman. He did a very seamless and awesome job in favor of the cosplayers.

Finally, thanks to Captain Am... I mean... @han_jones_cosplay, @lily_on_the_moon, @angelica_elfic and @leonchiro for judging and for the awesome words of encouragement we were given afterwards.

Of course, I can't not mention @cristinagomes0711, the beauty to my beast (also now my wife).

While we adapted the lyrics and sang the whole thing, it was all inspired by @therealteamstarkid

After 3 years cosplaying, @cristinasleather and I finally found a good opportunity to go up on stage.

It took many weeks of writing (not constantly writing, of course) and upon reading the first draft, it became clear it would take about 15min to perform the skit. For me, the hardest part was cutting things out, because I really wanted the audience to understand the characters and it was a difficult task to do that in 2min (considering we'd have about 1min coreographed combat).

Then, two weeks before the contest, we started rehearsing. We did it many times, but being on stage is just not the same thing. We failed a few times, but we learned a lot. We also picked some risky moves, so I'm still proud of what we made.

I gotta say thanks to everyone. From our friends at @cafemaisgeek and @daividjones, to the judges and the audience. Everyone was very supportive and made for a very sweet experience. This is still my favourite time being on stage.

Now, 2 and a half years later, I decided to sub, add some comments and share with the world. Enjoy ^^

Saudações, nobres aventureiros!

Neste #ThrowbackThursday (Isso ainda é uma cena?) estamos a recordar um dia maravilhoso na @feirapopularcoimbra

Estivemos presentes com mesas de jogos narrativos e um Live Play de Cairn, e não podemos deixar de agradecer não só aos nossos DM's convidados mas também aos jogadores do Live Play que aceitaram o desafio: @tessa.chb , @shadesofastra , @whitefangpt e @carlos_d_correia , @flowerybard e Dm @abardacat, obrigado por contarem uma história tão bela connosco.

Um agradecimento também ao @fablefoxweaver , @cristinasleather e @mara_of_astora , jurados do concurso de Cosplay, e a todos os participantes, com menção especial aos que conseguiram um lugar no pódio: @_.armario.da.batata._ , o @diocries e o @bernardo_lines .

Por último mas não menos importante, um agradecimento (e enorme salva de palmas) às. @ofc.afterschool pela performance incrível, e pela diversão que nos trouxeram com o seu random play dance.

Foi um evento absolutamente maravilhoso: Adoramos ter a comunidade tão presente e próxima, e esperamos continuar a fazê-lo, cada vez melhor, junto de vocês.

It's been over 10 years since I started cosplaying and I have used EVA for some small things (mostly padding), but this is the first time where it's the main material of the project. It's small, but it's something, and I finally feel like I'm properly using the rolls we got from @ruckyturner at @famalicaoextremegaming in... 2019? Look, I know it's been a while. It's not the foam, it's me. That and Rucky (t̶h̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶n̶e̶d̶) made me promise I wouldn't sell it or give it away. She told us to make cool things with it. So here we are. I have had two huge freaking rolls in my office for the past 6 years! I'm not mad... I'm not mad... I'm just still figuring out what to do with it. I'm doing my best, ok? 😭.

Since I'm tagging Rucky, I might as well list some of the things we've used this foam for. There was some of it in our stage props for the Witcher skit in ICL. And the Star-Lord mask we took to the premiere of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also had some of this foam for padding. I know it's just padding, but without padding I'd look like a bobblehead, so... it's important. Shut up 😆. The point is it's been there, in our highest moments. Thank you, Rucky, again.

As for the project in the video, just use gloves, mask, glasses and ear protection when handling power tools. Do not relax. One second will turn to months of pain if not more.
I'm not used to working with EVA (we've established that), so my hand is kinda heavy for it. With a bit of practice it's possible to get better results.
Oh, and the saw isn't all poopy and dirty, ok? It's just lint. I didn't notice when I was filming. I use it to clean polishing bits. by @fablefoxweaver

I wanted to post this last year (yesterday), but things (food, drink and boardgames) got in the way. Oh, the misery 😂. Anyway, I want to talk about the skit.

It was the hardest part for me. For the selections, if things aren't ready, we can postpone. However for a final there's no such option. Don't get me wrong, the costumes were an adventure, but you can't rush creativity. Inspiration is a wild untameable animal. It strikes when it wants. With a time constraint, we couldn't wait for it.

The base would always be a song (Jaskier is a bard after all and the music in The Witcher is so cool), so I spent months looking for the right one, drafting scripts for each, seeing what'd work best, weaving a story into the song and the song around the story. At every moment, the tone, the pace, the words had to be just right. I love doing this. I complain skits are too short, but that's what forces me to squeeze the lemons, choose the right words, the right melodies, the proper choreography so that all of it comes together to say the things we want to say, and when it does, when all the gears are in place and it all sings in harmony, when it's finally alive... ah, I love it. I really do.

And then the prop falls on stage. It didn't break. (I don't think I ever had a prop break... unless someone dropped it and stepped on it, @cristinasleather !). It was just a tiny little screw that came loose. Not even a full turn and it would have been secure. I had tested it backstage right before going on the stage.
Normally I would work around it, but most of my part revolved around it, so I tried to fix it. It was not fixable there. Thankfully, I'm paranoid and had nightmares with every possible failure scenario, so I knew what to do, I just didn't like it.

I know a lot of people didn't notice (don't worry, the judges did 😭), but I'm still sad I couldn't show what I had prepared. We're pondering a solution for that 😏.

Anyway, "perseverance" was definitely the word of the year that is now over. Perseverance through time crunch, through anxiety, through techniques we (or no one) had never done before and through failure on stage.

#2025recap

This year was such a rollercoaster of emotions, from non stop working for the ICL contest in between my normal commissions, having a small scare with our little kitty (who is now thriving!), going to our first international contest and winning (please pitch me as I still don't believe we did that), getting covid, attending the most wonderful Viking themed wedding and traveling back to Madrid to enjoy a mini vacations and the Warner park. We also were cosplay guests at @lisboagamesweek where we had the immense pleasure of selecting our next portuguese representatives for @cosleague.

🇬🇧🇺🇲 (🇵🇹⬇️)
This was the first time we cosplayed at an event outside Portugal (besides Halloween, at DisneyWorld). The costumes were mostly meant to be comfortable. We met a couple other jedi and shared tips on how to make the costumes. Overall, it was fun. I wish I could take a more stunning costume to one of these cons, but it would be hard to travel with a big costume or flashy props.

Esta foi a primeira vez que fizemos cosplay num evento fora de Portugal (para além do Halloween, na Disney World). Os fatos foram pensados sobretudo para serem confortáveis. Encontrámos alguns outros Jedi e trocámos dicas sobre como fazer os fatos. No geral, foi muito divertido. Gostava de conseguir levar um fato mais impressionante a um destes eventos, mas seria complicado viajar com um fato grande ou adereços chamativos.

Jaskier's costume is not the flashiest. I mean, it's not a big armour or sparkly dress and doesn't have any LEDs, so it goes a bit unnoticed at cons, which is a shame.
I think it's normal, because we will much more quickly notice something that's out of place (like something from a fantasy setting) over something that looks more real.
Still, I wanted @cristinasleather's work to get the appreciation I thought it deserved and the best way to do that, in my opinion, was to get it in front of a knowledgeable jury. That was my main motivation to participate in @cosleague.
And oh, boy, the pre-judging of the selection round at @lisboagamesweek exceeded my expectations. I felt like it was finally seen. And that was before getting the results.
Later, at @japanweekend in Madrid, I was delighted once more. You could tell the organizers put an effort into choosing people who knew their crafts. When you have a few minutes to explain months of work, you NEED people who understand what you're talking about. To be able to talk so freely without getting a blank stare back was such a warm experience as a crafter.
To not just get first place (which I'm sure everyone knows at this point how unexpected it was for us) but also receive the feedback is the best I could ask for 😁. I'm proud of Geralt, obviously, it was an adventure to make, but I'm happiest of Jaskier finally getting the spotlight it deserved.

If you're wondering "what was he thinking then?", the answer is "Oh, oh, wait... this pose is... oh, my knees. When do I get up? In 30s? Oh, ok. That's not much. Damn, let me adjust my back... No, that was a mistake. Ok, keep it cool. Look at the book. Yeah, cool Witcher reading the cool book while silly Jaskier does the silly song. So when do I get up? 29s? Fuuuuuuuu..."

Longest 30s of my life (so far).
