Day 11 of #fallforcostume is black. This 18th century witch ensemble is one of my favorites! So ready for Halloween! 🎃 #fallforcostume26 #18thcenturyfashion by @fabricatinghistory

I’m jumping in and out of this month’s #fallforcostume but here I am again with day 7 “blue”, day 9 “high contrast” and day 10 “white”! 😂
This summer I went ruffle-making crazy and made this white apron, kerchief and cap. I absolutely love how they turned out! The fabric is a cotton voile and is so light and airy! I used patterns from the American Duchess 18th century Dressmaking Guide for each piece. The white really pops against the dark blue of the gown.
To save time, I used the rolled hem foot on my sewing machine for all of the edges, then hand gathered the trim and hand sewed the trim to the rest of the project. That saved hours!

We had the best weather for our Ren Faire weekend! The past few years I’ve opted for comfort over a wearing big gown and don’t regret it! It’s so much easier to get around and I don’t have to worry about tripping on my gown 😄

Days 3 and 4 of #fallforcostume are hat and shoes. I love a good pair of American Duchess shoes. I think these are Kensington’s and they are so versatile! I’m also wearing my black taffeta market bonnet which is a fun accessory.
This is a linen English gown I made this past summer.

I’m so excited for #fallforcostume hosted by @sew_through_time ! Day one is beginnings. I don’t know why but I always start on the back of my gowns instead of the front! Is that what you do, too? 18th century gowns had the most beautiful details (day 2 theme!) on the back and I always want to see it take shape!
This photo was taken during the beginning stages of this piece becoming a Brunswick. It’s such a fun style with the hood and matching petticoat! Plus I loved the plaid pattern!

Did I mention it was 90 degrees the day we took these pictures?! I loved how this scarf matched my stays so I took some very quick shots before I melted 😂
I used the Redthreaded 1780’s front lacing stays pattern to make my stays, which I highly recommend! by @fabricatinghistory

Here’s a couple more looks with my new stays! I think I like the pirate hat more than the crown but playing around with fantasy themed costume pieces was really fun!
I was inspired to create this look when I found this shirt at a thrift store. The sleeves are amazing! The stays really pop against the black background, too. I found some boots at another thrift store, threw together some jewelry and costume props from my collection and voila!
If I wear the pirate hat with the feathers again, I’ll have to add a counter weight. It kept falling from the weight of the feathers (hence me holding it 😂).

I’m so happy with how my stays turned out! They are so comfortable and the front lacing makes putting them on so easy.
I had such a hard time deciding which ensemble to pair with the stays, that I decided to put together several looks instead of just one. I’ll share the others throughout the week!
I can’t wait to where my stays to Ren Faire!
I used Redthreaded’s 1780’s front lacing pattern with my cotton fashion fabric, coutil and steel boning.

My Dark Academia / Halloween stays are finished! They are definitely my favorite stays I have made to date and I can’t wait to wear them at Ren fair this year!
The fashion fabric is made from a table runner I found at a discount store a few weeks ago and is lined with coutil. I need to add another lining that can be easily removed and laundered at a later time. I used quarter inch cotton bias tape for the binding, steel boning and hand sewed the binding and eyelets. You can tell by how neat the eyelets are where I began and finished! 😂
I’m really proud of how the tabs turned out. They are always a struggle for me.
I used the Redthreaded 1780’s stays pattern which I love! I actually had enough coutil left over from the kit I bought from them to use in this project which was awesome!

New WIP! Trying to get a jump start on Halloween, I bought this amazing table runner that was just the right size for a pair of spooky stays! The bats, snakes and frog illustrations are so unusual and fun! It took a while to figure out how to get the animals to sit in each piece of the stays and still have enough fabric to complete the stays. I’m using Redthreaded’s 1780’s pattern which goes together so quickly. I had just enough coutil left over from the kit I bought to make another pair!
I’m debating on whether I want to bind it with black or dark green tape?
The stays are sewn and boning is installed so up next is to add the straps, the binding (my least favorite part 😭) and then the eyelets! I also have a stomacher not shown.
I loved how my other pair fits so I’m so excited to have another set of these stays!

I promise more historical costuming to come but I love breathing new life into used fabrics with modern clothing, too!
This Rainbow Brite sheet was just sitting in my closet, mostly forgotten, and now I can enjoy it whenever! This style is so comfortable, and I plan to make several more tops with this pattern!
I originally made this top with the bow to be in the back but my daughter thought I should try it the other way around and now I agree! I made the collar duel sided so I could wear the top either way if I wanted to change it up.
Now I just need to find My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Care Bears sheets! 😂
This top was made with a self drafted pattern that you can find in my feed!

OMG this project was so fun! Plus I loved digging out all of my old Rainbow Brite dolls for pictures! If you are interested in how I turned an old bed sheet into this top, I have the pattern and info in my feed! I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for more 80’s cartoon sheets! Did you have a favorite Rainbow Brite character? Mine was Shy Violet! #rainbowbrite #upcycle #memade by @fabricatinghistory
