![[November exhibition]
Thank you to everyone who submitted to our Cycle(s) open call. With this theme, we were not only looking for individual artistic quality, but for the strongest combination of two photographers, two practices that could enter into dialogue and carry a narrative further together.
We are now announcing the official choice of our guest juror, Carolyn Mendelsohn:
Epiphany Knedler @epiphanysk
Roberto Solomita @roberto_solomita
Both artists explore story and memory, and the space between what is real, fabricated and remembered. Knedler works with family archives and personal memory, questioning how photographs shape, and sometimes distort, what we remember. Solomita reconstructs the fictional disappearance of Harry Kipper, giving visual form to a story that never actually happened but entered collective memory through invention and retelling. Although their starting points are very different, both arrive at the same fascinating territory: where truth, memory and imagination become blurred, and where photography does not simply record what happened, but can shape what we believe happened.
We look forward to bringing these two bodies of work together in November, in an exhibition entitled « Apprently, This Happened ». by @fabula_works](https://scontent-mia5-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t51.82787-15/774033440_17893538952657148_5465709607675514762_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_s640x640_tt6&_nc_cat=104&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=18de74&efg=eyJlZmdfdGFnIjoiRkVFRC5iZXN0X2ltYWdlX3VybGdlbi5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=-IgSqcNEGi0Q7kNvwGM_GKb&_nc_oc=Adrh5A47rVzaoqdxfUQMHo2fl9HnDo3w4J92yKCROWRywwtasgszTF6b2ee-HDO17SsbBBrZYoNkmoHHfa-plEf5&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-mia5-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=MADFiuHyYLiGoFRdbNd52A&_nc_ss=70689&oh=00_AQSWnwG9M68vmzHr1q0fq_ONdnLJHJRMxHuMK7WhjgYflA&oe=6AEFFF3F)
![[September exhibition]
Fabula Works is proud to present a solo exhibition by Danish-born, Sweden-based photographer Sissela Johansson at Millepiani in Rome.
@sissela.johansson
Untethered brings together two bodies of work that approach portraiture as a space of emotional exposure. Johansson’s photographs resist polish and performance, lingering instead on moments in which people appear unguarded, suspended, introspective.
One series places figures in water, suspended between weightlessness and stillness. The other captures intimate expressions and gestures, revealing sincere and often ambiguous emotional states. Together, the works create tension between physical suspension and inner emotions.
This tension also reflects Johansson’s own relationship with identity. With a multicultural background and a life lived across continents, she approaches identity as something fluid rather than fixed, which can be shaped by places, encounters, memories and contradictions. Her expressive personality and heightened sensitivity inform a practice that is both direct and deeply attentive to the complexity of the people she photographs.
In Untethered, identity is not presented as a finished answer. It is something delicately balanced yet continually shifting. The photographs leave their subjects room to be complex and undefined, beyond the roles and appearances through which we usually come to recognise one another.
Raw, intimate and quietly confrontational, Untethered explores what remains when we let go of the need to define ourselves.
