❤️ HOT FLASH MOB - TEN MORE FACES, TEN MORE STORIES

The finished portraits from our second Hot Flash Mob session, held on 23 September at the LTB Showrooms/Priory Visitor Centre, Coventry, beautifully captured by Dr Jo Gane.

Twenty portraits across two sessions, and not one quite like another.

There is something incredibly powerful about seeing these images together. Different faces, personalities and experiences, brought together through a shared willingness to step in front of the camera and be seen.

Alongside those experiencing menopause, we're also celebrating the men who have joined us in support of their partners, friends and family. Their presence is a lovely reminder that menopause is something we can talk about, understand and navigate together.

Each portrait carries the distinctive marks and qualities of the wet plate collodion process, making every plate completely individual.

Together, they're forming a wonderful collection celebrating visibility, individuality, connection and the many different experiences surrounding menopause.

These portraits will feature in our Menopause Makes exhibition in 2027, before the original plates are gifted to their participants.

A massive thank you to everyone who took part, and to Jo for bringing this extraordinary photographic process to Hot Flash Mob. ❤️

❤️ HOT FLASH MOB – THE PORTRAITS

And here they are! The ten finished portraits from our first Hot Flash Mob session, held on 16 September at the LTB Showrooms/Priory Visitor Centre, Coventry.

Created by Dr Jo Gane using the historic wet plate collodion process, each photograph is a unique object, carefully developed and finished with a traditional lavender oil varnish.

But beyond the fascinating technique, these portraits are about something much more important.

Being seen. Being visible. Being ourselves.

Menopause is so often associated with women becoming invisible, overlooked or somehow less significant as they age. Hot Flash Mob challenges that idea, inviting participants to take control of how they are represented.

We also welcomed men who came along to support their partners, friends and family members. Their inclusion is an important reminder that, while menopause is a deeply personal experience, understanding, empathy and support from those around us can make a real difference.

Every portrait is different, every person bringing something of themselves to the image.

These beautiful photographs will become part of the wider Menopause Makes exhibition in 2027, with the original plates eventually returning to the people who helped create them.

📸 HOT FLASH MOB – BEHIND THE SCENES!

A little overdue, but I've finally got around to sharing some photographs from our Hot Flash Mob portrait sessions!

On 16 September, we welcomed our first group of participants to the LTB Showrooms at the Priory Visitor Centre in Coventry, to explore the fascinating world of wet plate collodion photography with Dr Jo Gane.

Using a camera dating from the 1850s, Jo took us back to the early days of photography. Each plate was individually prepared, coated with light-sensitive chemicals, exposed in the camera and developed immediately in a portable darkroom.

It's a wonderfully hands-on process, with a little bit of chemistry, a lot of patience and some beautiful surprises along the way!

These photographs capture some of the preparation, experimentation and behind-the-scenes moments from our first session.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and embraced the experience. ❤️

Hot Flash Mob is part of Menopause Makes, an Arts Council England-funded project exploring menopause, identity and visibility through creativity.

This is what it’s all about!

Heart full, mind blown! Thank you to those who came to enjoy the premiere of Pigeon!

Worcester we love you!

In rehearsal, It was simple!
What would make me want to watch, to engage, to want to move, to join in, to feel part of something, and leave feeling fabulous! We did have A LOT of fun figuring this out.

THEN it’s all in the testing. We previewed sections, and could feel a magical joyful energy building!

And It’s working! Yay! Three very happy pigeons! Now onwards.

Pigeon will now take flight and spread love both near and far!

🧶 WE NEED YOUR KNITS & CROCHET! 🧶

Look at this lovely pile! ❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for all the knitted and crocheted pieces already donated to Menopause Makes – but our giant cardigan is going to be VERY giant… so we need lots, lots more!

And absolutely anything goes.

🧶 Any shape
🧶 Any size
🧶 Any colour
🧶 Knitted or crocheted or woven
🧶 Beautifully finished or decidedly wonky!

Got old granny squares hiding in a cupboard? Practice pieces? Unfinished experiments? Scraps and odd bits you never quite knew what to do with? We want them!

Or why not make something especially for the project? There are no patterns to follow and no rules – your piece can be completely yours.

We’d also love old knitted or crocheted garments, blankets and other woolly textiles that can be incorporated or repurposed.

All these individual pieces will eventually come together to help create our enormous walk-in Menopause Makes cardigan – a collective artwork made from contributions across our communities.

So have a rummage through those wool bags, drawers and cupboards! 👀🧶

Every contribution, large or small, will be received with enormous gratitude. ❤️

✨ Meet the Artist: Rakha Madahar ✨

I'm so excited to introduce another of the wonderful artists taking part in the Meno Makes project.

Rakha Madahar is a Warwickshire based surface pattern designer, illustrator, and the creative workshop facilitator behind the award-winning business desgn.prnt.

Guided by her love of vibrant colour and tactile textures, Rakha brings her vision to life through carefully curated artisan prints and patterns. Each one is designed to evoke emotion, memory, and joy, and is showcased across a considered range of products.

Drawing inspiration from nature, architecture, travel, and her South Asian heritage, she bridges cultures and celebrates identity through meaningful pattern and print. Rakha uses a thoughtful mix of creative techniques, combining hand-drawn detail with digital software to shape designs that feel both modern and timeless. Her signature layered approach allows her to build depth, narrative, and feeling into every piece, using colour, mark making, and texture to express emotion.

As a creative facilitator, Rakha is dedicated to inspiring others to explore their own artistic voice. Her workshops encourage playful experimentation, intuitive layering, and mindful making, guiding participants as they translate their emotions into marks, patterns, and textures. Through her warm, supportive teaching style, Rakha creates spaces where people feel safe to try and express, as well as discover joy in the creative process. Her sessions empower makers of all backgrounds to connect with their creativity, build confidence, and create work that feels personal, expressive, and uniquely theirs.
