FireDrums 2026 through my lens 🎥🔥

This was my second year attending Firedrums, and during the first day of shooting I realized that I wanted to focus much more on video than photo. I quite enjoyed stepping into the role of videographer.

My setup was a Nikon Z8 with a 20mm f/1.8 prime on a DJI RS3 gimbal. This enabled me to get close to the performer and be dynamic with my camera movements. At times it felt like I was flowing with the performers while recording. I got winded several times from the long takes I would shoot while trying to keep the video as dynamic as possible.

Editing video is a whole lot of work. I shot over an hour and a half of unedited video, and I’m aiming to create an edit for each performer I captured. As I refine my shooting and editing style, I’m looking forward to attending more flow festivals this year and highlighting the diversity and creativity of flow. Hope you enjoy the video!

The fire spinners of “Shambhala in Your Heart” 🇹🇭

I traveled nearly 8000 miles to reach Chiang Dao, Thailand for this festival, and I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend. The fire circle vibes were some of the best I’ve experienced, with collaborative and positive energy all around.

Big thanks to the fire circle organizers for making this magic possible, and for the festival organizers for facilitating such a special gathering of art through dance.

When midnight was about to strike, we embraced the new year energy by setting the rain on fire. 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣🐦‍🔥

My creative inspiration was overflowing and I just had to get us outside (we did not plan this at all). What an exciting and inspiring feeling it was; the cold rain and the spicy fire. The rain hitting the fire created blue steam lit by our backlight. My senses were ignited. I’m really happy with how these came out, too. I have never seen anyone capture photos quite like these, nor have I ever seen fire photography in the rain at all. It feels great to step outside of my comfort zone.

I have also never edited our photos with illustrator until now. There was no intent to make a triangle but afterwards I couldn’t resist making it into the famous album cover.

Golden hour ☀️

@6bonk is flowing with @bubble.poi with @faces.of.flow behind the camera as always 🫶

These bubble poi are so magical and the camera skills really bring it to life. I felt like I was embodying my free spirit. I am so happy to have partnered with bubble poi to create these videos.

Here is a note from Callahan, the videographer for this reel: I was going for an ethereal, dreamy look with peak golden hour back-lighting to bring out the colors of the bubbles. I used my Nikon Z8 with a 50mm f/1.8 on a DJI RS3 for stability in camera movement. I stacked two filters on my lens: a mist filter to bloom the highlights and soften the image, and a VND filter to allow me to shoot wide open in the bright lighting. This shoot was invigorating due to the short time window we had to make it happen. All of the shots we got happened within a 20 minute window. I’m happy with how the vision turned out, and hope you enjoy it too! by @faces.of.flow

Firedrums 2026 photo highlights 📸🔥

Returning to Firedrums for my 2nd year felt like a marker of progress for me and my experience documenting flow arts. I’m happy with how the photos came out, especially considering that I only spent about 2 hours total shooting during the festival. My primary focus was video, which is gonna take way longer to edit, so I thought I’d drop some photos in the mean time.

Please help me tag everyone! I wasn’t able to connect with everyone individually, but let me know the slide number and username and I’ll provide credit.

The fan duo we needed @samciddy @iliterallycat 👏🪭

The story behind this video is kinda fun. I was at @fireflowla last Wednesday and saw 6 different flow artists spin fans at separate times. These were two that I saw who’s styles I thought paired nicely in a visual performance. Coincidentally, Sam and Lizel were talking to eachother both wearing all black when I came up and asked to collaborate on this spontaneous tunnel video 🤝

I shot this on a 20mm lens on a gimbal in FPV mode and tried pushing how close I could get to the person in front without burning my camera. You get these cool moments where the flame fully fills the frame. I wanted to go for minimal editing for a couple reasons:

1) my camera actually somehow retained focus properly the whole time 🤯🎉🥳 (this often doesn’t happen for me in low light with fire, movement, and multiple subjects)

2) the progression of the moments and transitions between performers felt seemless and sylized to the point where it feels cooler to have 1 continuous take

Anyways, I’m happy with how it came out with a little speed ramping for extra flavor. Slow mo is cool as an embellishment for the intracices of fast movement. Was so fun working with these two 🙏🙌
