Hi, I’m Ryan Faderani, a British Iranian film photographer based in London. Photography is a tool for me to reflect my inner states. I try to shoot without purpose and am led by listening to that quiet feeling that suggests pressing the shutter button. I hope my photographs evoke some of the same feelings in you too. This series is from my ongoing project, Tallow.

Through Ryan’s images I can hear the thrum of the cities, smell the familiar scents of car exhaust and street food while sweat beads down my neck as I walk the alleyways his lens leads me through. This wonderful immersion is achieved not through gloss and glamour, but textured realism and a deeply subjective intimacy, reminiscent of the work of lan Teh and Greg Girard.
His work leaves me yearning to be absorbed into all the places I’ve never been and share in their small, everyday moments that shape our collective human experience.

Khaju Bridge on #ektachrome using 1-10 second exposures. On the year anniversary of my granddad passing, going to the place where he would often listen to poetry (and where he was papped by Bourdain) was definitely the highlight of my trip. #kodakprofessional by @faderani

I have 3 cameras on their final shots of the roll so I haven’t had any new photos to look at for some time, it’s made me want to look back at photos from earlier this year and in particular I found some new appreciation for some of the medium format photos from Egypt. 1. Archeological excavation on route from Luxor to Aswan 2. Cairo, a few seconds after this photo some guy came and literally stole the icecream out of the dudes hand who was sat in the blue chair. It was deep but they must have been brothers. 3 &4. Cairo, by the pyramids.
Looking forward to new photos soon but also always look back at the oldies. by @faderani

A June/July dump. Lots of moments with beautiful friends. Although there is a pressure in the back of my mind that summer will finish I must remind myself that time is abundant right now. Wake up, drink a coffee on the balcony, listen to the sound of a stolen lime bike and let those thoughts pass by. by @faderani

Got my last roll of film back from Egypt, rarely shoot black and white but I guess it felt right at the time. It did take me like 2 months to finish this roll. I loved these flower pots that were on every floor of our apartment, they made you pause, and visually they still do that. It’s cool that a little change in space has an impact like that. Sunday morning, feels like Tuesday. I’m pretty sleep deprived in Istanbul right now waiting for a flight to Tbilisi. The flight from London may have been the most uncomfortable experience, not even an edible made me relax. I’ve had 2 espressos and a cappuccino at this lounge, watched at least an hour or odyssey related reels and I’m thinking of the food the lays beyond here. Airports really are purgatory. And anyways here are some final photos from Egypt that had been missed but I like. Featuring mishu the most beautiful cat to exist. She lives rent free in my mind. by @faderani
