mādar brings together artists spanning generations and disciplines, from Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan, Iran to Brooklyn, New York, in a collective gesture of solidarity.

Curated by Melika Abikenari and Golnar Adili, mādar is a benefit exhibition and auction opening Friday, May 15 at 6 PM at CUE Art Foundation.

Contributed works will be available through a benefit auction supporting relief efforts through Moms Against Poverty and additional on-the-ground initiatives supporting people in Iran. The online auction launches with the opening reception and remains live through 11:59 PM EST on May 15.

Opening night includes sounds by @narrokh beginning at 9 PM, aragh cocktails by @sag.nyc , and beer provided by @backhomebeer .

mādar will remain on view through the weekend at CUE Art Foundation, 137 West 25th Street. Weekend gallery hours on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 are from 12–6 PM; no reservations are required.

I’m gonna miss this studio! Never have I been surrounded by so much maccheroni. I enjoyed playing around with pasta. It was imperative to use this time to research the development of Italian-American cuisine, Molise (the region which doesn’t exist), and the weaponization of food as identity (Italian migrants to the United States were hatefully labeled Macaroni in the late 19th and early 20th century during periods of high Anti-Italian/Catholic sentiment). Diving into Italian culture, a culture other than mine, helped me learn how much I rely on symbols and culturally heavy materials. It may be a good idea to step away from this for a moment. Curatorial Statement: What do we think of when we think of a different place? A different place is always a thought or a memory. What comes to mind is the creation of memories that we have not in fact lived, informed by various formats of image making both in and out of the imagination. What does it mean to document an image that is not your own, but a nod to your role as witness to the vicarious? Memory making is always rooted in a different place.

Text2Speech is a curatorial project centering artists whose work deals with state borders, interpersonal boundaries, patriarchal standards and linguistic divisions. Text2Speech derives from the point at which art transgresses creative expression to become a form of material protest. Each event is a fundraiser.

La Fondazione Baruchello è felice di ospitare un nuovo appuntamento del Public program di CASTRO. CRIT#54 si terrà martedì 21 aprile dalle 18:30 alle 20:30 in Via del Vascello 35, con Fadl Fakhouri ( @fadlfakhouri ), partecipante dello Studio Program#09 di CASTRO e Paul Hutzli (@paulhutzli ), attualmente in residenza all’Istituto Svizzero.

Durante l’evento, gli artisti presenteranno i loro lavori “offrendoli” alla critica collettiva, guidata dagli interventi del pubblico.

L’incontro sarà moderato da Fabiola Fiocco @fbl_fio e si svolgerà in lingua inglese.

Fondazione Baruchello is thrilled to host a new event as part of CASTRO’s Public program. CRIT#54 will take place on Tuesday 21 April from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Via del Vascello 35, with Fadl Fakhouri, participant in CASTRO’s Studio Program#09, and Paul Hutzli, resident at the Swiss Institute.

During the event, the artists will present their works, ‘offering’ them up to collective critique, guided by contributions from the audience.

The event will be facilitated by Fabiola Fiocco and will be held in English.

I saw many trees on my walk yesterday. It is interesting comparing how they look from far away to up close. I started thinking about how the trees saw each other, the perspective of the trees, how they may look at the passerby, cars, and noises that they can hear with their ears. You should scroll to the end, it gets pretty interesting how diverse these trees can get in the same mile radius. I guess this also counts as a digital walkthrough of my walk. taken in Petaluma, California by @fadlfakhouri
