Final #aquarelle by amazing artist @fady.chammas of the Ayass residence in #ainmreisseh #blissstreet #beirut built in mid #19century. This is a personal commission to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the house.
Swipe left to follow the history of the house
Pic-2 taken from the hill of what was to become the AUB grounds later, the house was standing alone with no others around circa 1870.
Pic-3 taken from the AUB grounds after the construction of the medical hall circa 1875.
Pic-4 taken from the AUB clock tower after the completion of the church circa 1890.
Pic-5 used as a reference for dating the existence of the house based on the older pictures and the construction of the medical hall completed in 1873 as documented by the AUB.
Pic-6 is the main hall of the house and the beautiful ceiling that was hand crafted by artists from Toscana. This floor was inhabited by Ahmad bey Ayass, the son of Othman Ayass, who acquired and built Souk Ayass in the old souks of beirut.
The house saw the birth of Ma'moun Ayass in 1911 (my father) and his brother Nizar as well as his 4 sisters.
Pic-7 & 8 Are the house in its present state.
Worth mentioning that it is classified as national heritage.
