Another quick explainer on the rotary combustion cycle. The rotor is geared to the E-shaft at a 1.5:1 ratio, it takes 270° of crank angle rotation to go from bottom dead center to top dead center. In a normal piston engine it takes 180° to go from bottom dead center to top dead center. what this means is you have 30% more time to fill the intake chamber, but it also means that your airflow velocity is going to be 30% slower.

Piggybacking off of @mazzei_formula video, a quick visual demonstration of the rotary engine cycle.

Doing some paint correction on a new project car/workshop vehicle.

Started with 3M trizact 1500, then 3000, then meguiars m105 m205. Been my favorite combo for a while

Sunday Rotary fun!
I decided to play around with blender's geometry nodes to create the trochoid envelopes to try and make the rotor surface. It's not as straightforward as it seems. The outer housing shape is pretty simple as it is just a rolling ball on another ball. The less straightforward thing is the shape of the rotor because it is a collection of curves.

More OMP testing. This time an R1 RX-8 Mikuni OMP. Very similar to late FD Mikuni double pump. Only difference being two more ports for the extra oil injector on the RX-8 housing.

Doing some very important research and cutaways for rotary oil metering pumps. The much maligned, misunderstood, mechanical wonder that's been on Mazda rotaries since the original cosmo. Including the 787B.

I always get a little chuckle when I get material from my supplier. I swear in the past life, they had to be a drug dealer or something.🤣🤣

$It's coolant clean out day for the Haas, it's the first time since the machine was new. We've used Qualichem 260xc and It only recently started to change a noticeably different color and consistency because we've actually been machining some out of the ordinary materials for CNC machine. In this case, it was bamboo and other wood particles. My guess is that the organic material of the wood or any bacteria or mold that might have been part of the wood started to rapidly change the coolant. We've been diligently tracking the coolant health with test strips, refractometer, TDS meter etc. and what that has taught us is that most of those tests aren't sensitive enough for coolant. Specifically the TDS and pH test strips. From day-to-day month-to-month year to year there isn't enough sensitivity in the test strip to actually tell you anything meaningful. The most important thing with your coolant is the concentration percent. The only time you want to use a pH test strip is when you want to know the health of your source water and when you replace the coolant. Otherwise, the data isn't able to predict when the coolant is bad. The color and smell will be the best indicator of coolant health. #instamachinist #instamachining #cnc #cncmachining #coolant by @faf_engineering$

Some more 3D printed tool organizers for the shop this weekend.
...
I like vertical organization because it takes up less floor space and I can see the tooling I have in stock very quickly. I've been wanting to do this for a while, and had some time this weekend to model and 3D print these parts. Each part has a V groove and some slots for cable ties. so now I can hold really small parts and also really heavy stuff and hanging on the wall. I'll finally be able to organize the shop just that little bit more.

Here's another video on the wrench organizers. I tried to make these things on my mill, and make it economical, but the work holding and material waste and cycle time just wasn't getting it. And the 3D printer is like, "no prob, I gotchu"
I'm just mildly obsessed with organization

I should have bought a 3D printer many years ago, but I'm glad that I waited until the user experience and design was robust enough to make it almost fool proof. I bought a @josefprusa MK4 Anniversary edition. And assembled it over the weekend. The first print was fantastic and there were no issues.

It also gave me a reason to try some parts organization that didn't make sense in the cnc. Came out perfect first time in the 3D printer.
