Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our first Fail Better Story Time in our new home @outsideinthtr. We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with them and introducing our Fail Better community to this new LA theatre!

A special shout out to our storytellers @shaedayy @ssarahvargass @shoelessreycordova and our open mics for the night @daniiiiii21 and @adrianbird! It’s not easy to get on stage and share true stories about your life. We were honored to host you, and thank you to everyone in the audience who showed up and offered supportive feedback.

Our next Fail Better Story Time is Thursday, November 5 at 7 pm @outsideinthtr! Use the link in our bio to purchase tickets.

Our next Fail Better Story Time is almost here at our new home @outsideinthtr!

Join us next Thurs, Oct 1st at 7pm for drafts of true stories by @ssarahvargass @shaedayy and @shoelessreycordova! The night will be hosted by our Managing Director and @mothstories Intructor @christopherfromqueens.

Audience members can get involved in this workshop-show by offering supportive feedback. We’ll also have open mic slots for anyone who feels moved to tell on the day.

DAY 19 📝 FAIL BETTER

This was one of my favorite events this month, even though I don’t talk about it much on the video. People tell true personal stories, and you learn how to tell your own stories better. 10/10 would cry and laugh and eat empanadas again by @failbetterarts

Thank you to everyone who came out to @studious.work and supported our Fail Better storytellers this past Tuesday! We had a great turnout and a fun time witnessing and discussing true story drafts full of heart and humor from @chabemucho @kelpie007 @jaimexicano @crystalvrivera and our open mic @ssarahvargass.

Announcing next week’s lineup for @failbetterarts Story Time! We will hear true story drafts from @chabemucho @kelpie007 @jaimexicano and @crystalvrivera. The night is hosted by @christopherfromqueens, our Managing Director and storytelling instructor at @mothstories.

RSVP as an audience member and get a peak behind the curtain of story development, as the storytellers use audience feedback to workshop their ideas.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dearest friend and Fail Better Arts co-founder, Esther Yumi Ko. She passed away on Tuesday, June 9, at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Her family held a private service shortly after her passing. Esther loved hiking and nature, so upon her request, her family scattered her ashes on the mountains of upstate NY.

Esther & I founded Fail Better Arts when we were roommates in Queens back in 2015. As writers who weren’t actually writing, Esther suggested we change that with a combination of “unreasonable” deadlines & communal accountability. We invited artists of all kinds into our living room who were also ready to share, witness and offer supportive feedback to unfinished works. Esther’s commitment to our gatherings made the creative process a little less lonely & more fun. Being so well read and more savvy to Samuel Beckett than I was, she was the one who suggested the name “Fail Better.” I’m indebted to her of course for the name but more so for being the ideal partner-in-crime when hosting together.

Without her dedication in the early days, Fail Better Arts and the community that’s still growing, wouldn’t be here today.

While our hearts are very heavy, Sana & I want to honor Esther’s request for another gathering. Esther wanted a memorial not solely focused on sharing sorrow together, but also celebrating a life that impacted so many. With the help of a small group of her friends, we are planning a memorial in NYC in October. A date, location and further details will be shared in the coming weeks.

Given the expanded community she built around the world, we want to give those who would like to attend time to make travel preparations. Her absence is greatly felt and yet simultaneously so is her influence and spirit on me, Fail Better Arts and the many communities she built around herself.

Esther, thank you for failing better with every artist that attended our events. Thank you for failing better with me professionally and very much personally. I’m grateful you took a risk on me in co-creating something together. We won’t let you down. We’ll miss you.
