α̇λη̇θεια is a way of truth, a way of unconcealing what was once unseen. That’s what this property and all these projects feel like for me. Years spent creating in private, writing by myself, imagining versions of reality and pulling those thoughts into three-dimensional space meant revealing what was once intangible. I’ve learned to recognize it as a form of mastery to do this development work. Especially as a woman. Mastery of the physical world requires discipline and patience. It demands stillness and solitude at times and communication and connection at others. It’s a heavy crown to bear this bringing one’s imagination into reality for others to inhabit, and it opens you up to scrutiny most people don’t face. What were only thoughts in my head have become floors that carry conversations and tables where people are nourished. What happens when you bring the concealed parts of yourself into vision? What makes Peters Street different? Castleberry Hill is a creative place but there's much more than that. There's an energy here at work. A spirit with purpose and determination that's about to birth something new into the world. Something deep-rooted and nourishing for so many. Something new is coming and it wants to be born healthy and whole. This journey has not been an easy one. I don't know anyone who looks like me who lives the way I live who does this type of development work. @zahra_ala came to visit yesterday & was surprised by what I've built. Why? Because I've been somewhat quiet about it and just doing the effing work. So here's a little background: I’ve been developing Fair + Peters as a mixed-use cultural real estate campus in Atlanta’s historic arts district. The strategy is to increase the value of the property by pairing strong independent tenants with hospitality, media, arts, and programming that drive foot traffic and make the campus more desirable over time. @localmagicwisdom is a culinary studio I created as part of that strategy. It gives me a way to test programming and build an audience but, more importantly, it sets a new tone for the street. At its core, I’m building a real estate asset where culture is one of the engines of long-term value. The goal is to create a place where we don’t just come to consume culture, but to archive and produce culture while building businesses and creating lasting ownership around it. @1almightyzion, a talented creative director who builds visual worlds, was the first intentional tenant I sought out to occupy space. He documents his filmmaking, fashion, product design, installation, photography, furniture, and brand-making. He directs and edits films, constructs interactive CRT installations, designs furniture, and creates campaigns for Forever Almighty and other brands. @nuralogical designed Plot Shift, a brilliant card deck that features 94 thoughtfully designed cards, rooted in The R.E.S.T. Method™, a framework for restoration and burnout recovery. She makes many other beautifully-designed things as well and for that reason she will be featured in the small retail shop I built where you can also purchase the work of local artists. The shared courtyard faces the rear parking lot and will allow for a future cafe operator to have additional seating outside. This is #PetersStreet y'all.We grew up and we all want businesses that speak to our grown up selves who still want to have a good time and be in community. Human connection is a gift, and making those connections is a blessing. I attended Chef Sanza’s @yeovilledinnerclub pop-up in Cape Town earlier this year, still dreaming about his cassava leaves and storytelling 7 months later. Two weeks ago, I met Alison at @localmagicwisdom - the culinary content studio she’s been building with her heart and hands (and has the power tools to prove it) on Historic Peters Street. We got connected about hosting a game night with @thisisplotshift - the game I created in SA. So I showed it in action…at that dinner in Cape Town. “We should do something like that here.” We both agree. Then a week ago, I ran into Sanza at @hitpatlanta I don’t believe in coincidences. I connected the dots, and just like watercolors, they bloomed. What happened around that table felt significant. Substantial in a way you often can’t see while you’re living inside the moment. The pan-African flavors. The new friendships. The energy that kept the conversations going til morning. If you were there, you’re not forgetting this one. It was a reminder of what community and connection feels like. Thank you Damola and @bayabgin for introducing us to the baobab plant. We created a saffron pineapple spritzer, and just like its name, it gave us life. Thank you to everyone in the room. The magic was built from community. This is Atlanta at its finest.
