Michaela Bresnahan '27, a nursing student in #FairfieldEgan, is participating as a Student Nurse Extern at Elizabethtown Community Hospital this summer, a critical access hospital in the Adirondacks.

Throughout the program, Michaela has seen firsthand how innovative and resilient nurses must be when caring for patients in a resource-limited setting.

What began as a friendship on Fairfield’s Main Campus has come full circle for Isabella Sweeney ’22 and Amanda Nowak ’22.

The pair enrolled in the #FairfieldU's Accelerated Second Degree Nursing (ASDNU) program at the Austin Campus and are set to graduate in August 2026, becoming the first alumnae to earn bachelor’s degrees from two Fairfield campuses.

Future nurses and health professionals in the Class of 2030 connected at Orientation as the Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies welcomed its newest students to campus. Students got a better look at what their next four years will look like at #FairfieldU and met their classmates, ahead of their arrival on campus this fall.

#FairfieldEgan is extending its global partnership with the The American University of Florence (@auf_florence) through a new interdisciplinary health and nutrition conference in Florence, Italy, taking place in January 2027.

The conference will connect scholars across nursing, public health, nutrition, and social work to examine the social, cultural, clinical, and ethical dimensions of health and nutrition.

Heather Severson '25 began her career working as a scientist in a lab setting after earning her undergraduate degree in molecular biology and physiology, but she soon realized she wanted a more direct connection to patients and families.

That realization led her to the Accelerated Second Degree Nursing (ASDNU) program at #FairfieldU's Austin Campus, where she began her journey toward becoming a registered nurse. Following graduation in August 2025, she secured a role as a labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum nurse.

#FairfieldEgan, through its Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-funded Maternity Care (MatCare) Nursing Workforce Expansion grant, led a mobile simulation training at the Family Birthing Center (FBC) at @manchestermemorial.

Over two days, the Egan School, in collaboration with OBGYN and Midwifery of Connecticut (@womenshealthct), hosted three sessions for more than 30 nurses and providers focused on maternal emergency preparedness.
