ROCK THE ROOST SUBMISSIONS are OPEN! Fairmont State University is turning up the volume with Rock the Roost 2027, a full-day music festival and battle of the bands celebrating the sounds, stories, and talent of West Virginia. This first-of-its-kind event will bring together bands from across the Mountain State for a day of live music, food, vendors, community, and competition on Fairmont State’s campus on June 12, 2027!

The winner will go home with a $5,000 cash prize! Submissions are open until October 30th. To be eligible, bands must:
🎸 Have members from West Virginia
🎸 Perform original music
🎸 Have at least four original songs
🎸 Be available to perform on June 12, 2027
🎸 No cover bands

Join us on October 22nd for our showing of Small Town Universe! 📡 Small Town Universe is a documentary film about Greenbank, WV where the Greenbank Conservatory is!

Liv sat down with Dr. Matthews this week to talk about the movie and the event we are hosting next Thursday in Library MMA from 6PM-9PM. If you attend, you'll be able to watch the movie and participate in a Q&A with the filmmaker!

Who is ready for A&T and Basketball season?! 🤸‍♀️🏀

Our Acrobatics & Tumbling team and Women's Basketball team got together this afternoon to teach each other their sports! It was a great afternoon for our student athletes to get to know each other and see what they can do on the mat and the court 🤩

Get ready for our second Presidential Speaker Series event of the semester featuring Jean Michel Habineza! 🎙️Jean Michel is the founder of iDebate Rwanda and will be here to talk with President Davis about what Rwanda teaches us about memory, division, and renewal.

This event will be on November 10th at 6PM in Wallman Hall Theater and is FREE and open to the public! Habineza’s talk will be followed by a Q&A and reception with light refreshments.

STUDENTS! If you check-in to and attend both Presidential Speaker Series of the Fall 2026 semester, your name will be put into a drawing for FREE Starbucks throughout the Spring 2027 semester. If you attend 4 out of 5 of the 2026-2027 Presidential Speaker Series events, your name will be put into a drawing for a FREE pair of Beats Headphones which will be given away at the end of the Spring 2027 semester. There will be TWO chances to win the Beats headphones, so make sure you mark your calendars for ALL of the Presidential Speaker events!

One of our newest club sports, the Fairmont State Clay Target team, competed at Regionals at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, OH last weekend and brought home some well-earned recognition, including:

Fairmont State University is heading to Charleston for our annual Day at the Capitol on Friday, February 5, and we want you to be part of it!

Day at the Capitol provides an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to represent Fairmont State, highlight the University's impact across West Virginia, and engage with elected officials about the accomplishments of our students and programs.

As a state-supported institution, many of Fairmont State’s achievements are made possible through legislative investment, and this is our chance to demonstrate how that support helps make West Virginia a Great Place to Learn, Work, and Call Home.

We invite students, faculty, and staff to join us in Charleston on Friday, February 5, and help showcase the people, programs, partnerships, and ideas that make Fairmont State a bedrock institution for West Virginia.
