Spy Gesture Remote

This was my favorite product to develop within the Spy system. Integrating gesture control across multiple mounting options creates a more customizable way to operate LiveScope on the water.

Mounting was the core design challenge. Developing a solution that works across both spinning and casting setups, while adapting to a wide range of rod blanks and handle geometries. The remote needed to remain secure on a glossy surface without damage or slippage, while staying easily accessible during active fishing.

While docked in a rod cradle the full package had to feel seamless while never interfering with balance, grip, or overall rod feel.

To extend versatility, the system also includes a hat mount and handheld cradle, opening up additional ways to search and target fish. Post 3/3 by @fairnington_concepts

Spy Foot Controller -

The goal was to create a versatile foot controller that gives anglers a customizable steering experience through both actuation style and programmable buttons.

Through a series of prototypes, the design evolved toward a solution centered around a raised center rail. This feature allows anglers to comfortably rest their weight on the pedal without unintentionally triggering commands, creating a stable neutral position during use.

The rail also enables a tri-directional pivot point that drives the control experience: rocking the foot left or right steers the Spy system, while shifting weight forward activates hands free gesture commands.

Extensive user testing informed the proportions and spacing of the controls. Anglers interacted with prototypes wearing everything from flip flops to hunting boots, helping us refine button size, placement, and tolerances to ensure reliable actuation across a wide range of footwear and conditions.

All of this was achieved while maintaining a compact, durable platform designed to withstand the demands of harsh marine environments.

Introducing @garminmarine Spy Pole ! A system designed to reshape how anglers interact with live sonar and locate fish on the water.

As the lead industrial designer on this project, I had the opportunity to define the early architecture and shape how this system would interface with the angler.

Every design decision was guided by how anglers actually move and fish on their vessels.

Over several years, countless iterations refined the system into a form that balances strength, compactness, and usability. Storage constraints, harsh marine environments, and the realities of limited onboard space became key design drivers.

The system was designed to integrate seamlessly with the Force trolling motor, while also supporting a dedicated gunnel mount which opens the system up to anglers across a wide range of boat types and setups.

A massive Figma board, one you could scroll through for what felt like forever, captured the entire journey. Sketches, prototypes, and ongoing discussions helped us answer new questions as we continued learning from the people who would ultimately rely on the system.

The result is a tool designed for serious anglers, while still empowering fishermen of any level to find success on the water.

Incredibly proud of the team that brought this to life! @nathan_chitwood @soleo.design @mattdesign_ @garmin_design

A second lighter concept for @render.relay

This concept was inspired by the orange transparent model of the Game Boy Color which I had as a kid.
