Not all cooking oils are the same, but a higher price doesn’t automatically mean a healthier choice!

Beyond the brand or the type of oil you buy, pay attention to how much you add to your meals. Small choices can make a difference in your overall eating habits.

Your hands may look clean… but they can still be carrying germs 🦠 Please wash your hands!

Your hands can carry germs from surfaces, food, your phone, and other people—even when they look clean.
Handwashing with soap and water removes germs and helps reduce the spread of infections such as diarrhoea and respiratory illnesses.

Wash for at least 20 seconds with soap, especially before preparing/eating food, after using the toilet, and after coughing or sneezing.

Clean hands = safer food. Good hand hygiene is one of the simplest ways to reduce food contamination.

Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which your body uses as a primary source of energy. So, a rise in blood glucose after eating carbs is a normal physiological response—not something to fear.

What matters is how your body manages that rise. Insulin helps move glucose from your bloodstream into your cells, while factors such as portion size, fibre, physical activity, and insulin sensitivity can influence your blood glucose levels.

If you have diabetes, the goal isn’t to eliminate carbohydrates. It’s to learn how to enjoy them in portions and combinations that support healthy blood glucose management.

✨ Carbs are not the enemy. Understanding how they affect your body is key.

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month 💛

Living with sickle cell isn’t just about managing pain when it comes — it’s about building a lifestyle that reduces how often it shows up in the first place.

For our sickle cell warriors, this season is a reminder to check in on your body and your routine — because small, consistent habits can make a real difference in managing crises and staying well.

If you’re living with SCD, a caregiver, or someone who loves someone with SCD, this one’s for you. Watch till the end and share it with someone who needs it.

Have a tip that’s worked for you? Drop it in the comments — let’s support someone this awareness month 👇🏾

I know where to draw the line, do you? 🙃

I’m a dietitian… but I don’t eat “perfectly” all the time and that’s okay.

Healthy eating isn’t about being perfect. It’s about knowing where to draw the line, making nourishing choices most of the time, and enjoying your favourite foods without guilt.

If you need guidance on building healthy eating habits or a personalised meal plan that fits your goals, lifestyle and health needs, send me a DM.

Your gut microbiome thrives on variety—not perfection.

Many foods that support gut health are already part of our local diet. 🌿🥣 From beans and unripe plantains to ogi, ugwu, zobo, and tigernuts, small daily choices can nourish the beneficial bacteria that support digestion, immunity, and overall health.

You don’t need expensive supplements—just a more diverse plate.

💬 Which gut-friendly food do you enjoy the most? Tell me in the comments! 👇🏾

World Breastfeeding Week is the perfect time to separate facts from fiction! 🍼

Many parents receive well-meaning advice from family and friends, but not all of it is backed by science.

The truth?
1. Babies under 6 months don’t need water—not even in hot weather
2. Breast size is mostly about fat tissue—not milk-making tissue
3. Crying has many causes—hunger is just one of them
4. There’s no good evidence that Guinness increases breast milk production. In fact, alcohol can pass into breast milk
5. Milk and malt don’t ‘make blood.’ If you’re low in iron after delivery, you need iron-rich foods and, when prescribed, iron supplements.

Which of these myths have you heard before? Share it in the comments!
