🎧 Continuing my journey through the Dungeon Crawler Carl series on audiobook!

In book 3, The Iron Tangle made my brain want to EXPLODE 🤯, but somehow it was still so much fun.

And in book 4, I LOVED the setup of the domes on the fifth floor. After the chaos of the Iron Tangle, having a slightly easier-to-follow explanation of how the crew would gain access to the stairwell was very much appreciated. 😂

Once again, among all the mayhem, battles, and absolute insanity, Carl and Donut showed us what it really means to be human (or cat). 🥹 There’s so much more heart in this series than I ever expected when I started it.

And if you’re thinking about starting Dungeon Crawler Carl, DO THE AUDIOBOOK. Seriously. Jeff Hays brings these characters to life in a way that is hard to explain until you listen for yourself.

⚡️❤️Harry Potter Appreciation Post

🪄As a kid, I read all the Harry Potter books and waited with bated breath for each new one to come out—I guess it’s my Faith’s Next Chapter origin story. 🤣🤣

The other day I realized that whenever the movies are on cable, I always let them play and still enjoy the story of Harry, Hermione, Ron and Hogwarts as much as I did 30 years ago. It got me thinking….

📓 Mini Book Review

💫 The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

💭 Real Take — Can you say COZZYYYYY?! This book was the perfect witchy palate cleanser after my last couple of reads had me a little spooked! 👻

Mika Moon is a witch, but shhhh 🤫 no one can know! And heaven forbid witches actually spend time together, risking magical mayhem and a threat to their existence. These old-school rules have forced Mika into a life of solitude—one she’s not necessarily thriving in.

Then along comes the crew of Nowhere House, who ask Mika to tutor their three young witches in all things magic. Mika is worried at first—three witches living under the same roof is definitely against the “Rules.” Plus, after a lonely upbringing, Mika has a pretty guarded heart. But against her better judgment, she accepts the proposition, and what ensues is a story of found family, love, and a bit of magic! ✨

I loved the way this author describes magic and the ways the witches wield it! I wanted MAGIC, and I got it! 🪄

I’d recommend this book if you enjoyed Practical Magic, Harry Potter, or Frozen—or if you’re just looking for a cozy, not-so-scary magical read! 🧙🏼‍♀️✨ by @faithsnextchapter

A little follow-up to my milestone post! 🤍

I said I wanted to celebrate this little corner of the internet growing by giving back, and after our unexpected pelican rescue this weekend, I knew exactly where I wanted that donation to go. 🥹🪶

Thanks to all of YOU, I’ll be donating $100 to Panhandle Wildlife Rescue to help support the incredible work they do caring for and rehabilitating injured wildlife.

It feels pretty special that something as simple as talking about books on the internet can turn into an opportunity to do a little good in the real world. 🥹

I can’t believe there are 1,500 of you!! 🥹📚

When I started this Bookstagram a little over 3 months ago, I truly had NO idea what I was getting myself into. All I knew was that I wanted a place to YAP about books! 😂

But I’ve gotten that and so much more. This community is seriously amazing. I’ve made genuine connections with people I never would’ve had the chance to meet otherwise, discovered SO many incredible books, and found a little corner of the internet that I genuinely love being a part of. 🫶🏼

Thank you SO much for all the love—the likes, comments, shares, saves, recommendations, and follows. Every single bit of support means more to me than you know!

And I want to celebrate 1,500 by paying a little kindness forward. 💜

When my friend @irish_voyager_thru_books hit her last follower milestone, she chose to donate to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and I was so inspired by her generosity that I wanted to do something similar.

And after what happened Saturday, I know exactly where I want mine to go. 🥹

While we were out on the water, we came across an injured pelican and were able to rescue her and get her to Panhandle Wildlife Rescue where she could receive the care she needed. 🦤❤️

So for this post, I’m pledging $0.25 for every like, comment, share, save & repost over the next 48 hours, which I’ll donate directly to the refuge that took her in.

It feels pretty special to be able to celebrate this little Bookstagram milestone by helping an organization that was there when we needed them, too. 🥹❤️

Whether it’s a full cast bringing the characters to life, a narrator absolutely NAILING the performance, or hearing an author tell their own story, these are the audiobooks that had me finding any excuse to keep my headphones in. 🎧📚

Working out? Audiobook.
Driving literally anywhere? You already know. 😂

Totally NOT book related but… we rescued a pelican today!

🤕 The poor thing’s pouch was ripped open on one side and seemed to be seeking some help.

🚨After a couple phone calls, we were advised to catch it and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation met us out on the water to take him to receive medical care.

🏥 FWC is taking him to a temporary facility overnight. Tomorrow he is either heading to Alaqua or Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge.

❤️‍🩹 I’m hoping to be able to follow along with his journey to recovery !

📓 Mini Book Review

🐑 Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison

💭 Real Take — Ok, I’m not kidding when I say this book kept me up at night! 🫣

Black Sheep is a page-turner from the start—easy to read and immediately draws you in with a mysterious wedding invitation sent to our FMC, Vesper. But in order to attend the event, she’ll have to return to the religious cult she ran away from six years prior on the cusp of 18.

Rachel Harrison does not disappoint with the scare factor, and I think most of that comes from the story being centered around a cult and what that cult worships. It’s a real thing, and it honestly scared the shit out of me and made me extremely uncomfortable.

But I think that’s exactly what horror is supposed to do. 👏🏼

Not my favorite of her books, but it definitely nailed the genre. And, as Rachel Harrison always does, she gives us an FMC who finds herself through all the toxic family drama that ensues. I love how she’s able to weave that into her horror novels—it’s not all gore and jump scares.

If you’re a fan of Rosemary’s Baby, classic campy horror movies, or the show Devil in Ohio, this would be a great book for you this Halloween season! 🎃 by @faithsnextchapter

🎧📚 ALC Book Review

Fallow by Sarah Anderson

🗓️Happy Pub Day!! Out today 9/15

💭 Real Take — OK, so I loved the premise of this book. I think there’s SO much to unpack regarding the idea of a corporate surrogacy program and, ultimately, the situation Natalie finds herself in. BUT Natalie as a protagonist… I can only describe as MEH.

There are so many topics in this novel that are worth thought and discussion. Truthfully, I don’t think the concept of a company-run surrogacy program is that far out in left field—I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this is already in the works. 👀 The author does a fantastic job of touching on subjects that are relevant and worth consideration, such as maternity leave, the treatment of pregnant and new mothers, and bodily autonomy.

I especially loved that both organizations in this novel had just as many rules and stipulations despite their very different philosophies. It really begs the question: Is there such a thing as the perfect job?

The novel is well written, and the satire is spot on! The narrator, Natalie Naudus, totally captured Natalie’s apathy and overall attitude. But the story lacked the character development from our FMC that I was really hoping for.

Natalie’s character is lazy and boring… she’s just not my kinda girl. 😂 She has very little personality or purpose of her own, and I kept waiting for her to really COME ALIVE. I love a character I can root for, and she just wasn’t the one.

Overall, though, the book was entertaining, and I was invested in Natalie’s story and how it would all end.

If you liked Office Space, Severance, or satirical comedies like Best in Show, this book might be for you!

Sometimes a book doesn’t just stay on the page - it follows you right into the kitchen. 🍝📖 After loving The Three Graces of Pearl Street by Elizabeth Wellington Rollins, I was so happy to see @faithsnextchapter get inspired to make meatballs from the story, and I loved the idea so much I made my own batch using her recipe! Nothing like a good book turning into a good meal. 🧡
