[your life/body is an altar] ♾️ by FAITH McCorkle ♾️An altar-sized, double-sided zine born from previous artworks and streams of consciousness, [your life/body is an altar] is an offering, invitation, and experience. I’m SOO excited to finally be releasing this offering to the world!I started birthing this zine last June while enrolled in the Oleander School for Negro Publishers, organized by @mackenzieriver.space where we met at @redemmas. I was surrounded by such brilliant and kind Black folk, all who had something to say. As I meditated on the power of telling a story, I naturally went within. Not gonna lie, it took me a lonnngg time to settle on what to do 😮‍💨 (I’m also a natural procrastinator lol). It wasn’t until I was doing fieldwork in South Carolina, visiting family and doing internal research for 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 that I discovered what it was I had to say. My truth. My faith. After cutting my locs, I had cyanotype printed them in a workshop with @reyesedgar while at work, and felt this overwhelming shift in how I saw my self. I had always made conscious decisions to heal, but releasing my hair and utilizing it in a process awoken something within me—I had begun an act of return. I started connecting the dots to this thread of Blue(/black) that’s been present in my work (and style heehee). I have carried so much grief in this home [life/body] and they called to me to be put to rest. To be reflected on gently. And now they all live on in this lil altar-sized (another conscious decision!) home. I (re)found freedom in release. This Birth was how I came home. Came home to my self love, my voice, my body, my spirit. 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘤𝘺, 𝘐 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘺55 1/2” x 56 1/2”, Mixed media on self-constructed canvas scroll, 2026 Hope and Faith depict the turning point of a triumphant journey, returning to the past with a vigor bestowed upon them from the light. Revisioning visual elements from Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David, the pair reimagine conquest and manifest destiny, reclaiming land and narrative by leaving their indelible mark on the lands they’ve traversed and transformed. The victors are shown holding keys and following a map to an elevated peak, while riding a fearsome and determined lion. Hope & Faith x SCOUT art fair 2026, curated by @bydvnlln and @vivalacie ✨🔮We’re so excited and honored to participate in this year’s Scout Art Fair @artscapebmore! In connection to our solo exhibition, 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦, currently on view @creativealliancebaltimore, we turned our booth into a 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦, a space to pause and rest with our new series of work.We created intimate window scenes and sculptural altar offerings for this series, exploring the comfort and power held in the Black home, whether that home be in the kitchen, at the cookout, in the garden, or even in the self. As you all are aware our work is usually (very) large scale! We wanted to meditate on these instances of stillness in the different perspectives home shows up in us—to collage details that you have to get a closer look through the window to see. It’s refreshing to add a new style of creating to our practice ✨We have all original works available for collection at SCOUT Art Fair this weekend. Manifesting with the stars and higher powers in the heavens and space, we are always co-creating with the universe. Peace everyone ✨ We’re here to introduce ourselves and our Rubys Artist Grant project! Welcome to those who are new to Hope & Faith’s journey 🙌🏾We are a twin artist collective who create collaboratively! We are world-builders, wielding art as a vessel for healing, memory, and transformation. Through mixed-media scrolls, collage, soul food, and interactive installations, our practice explores Black ritual, spiritual resilience, and ancestral wisdom. We honor Black motherhood and collective consciousness while reconstructing Black experiences across dimensions with vibrant, immersive creations. 🧚🏾‍♀️Last year we were selected and so very honored to receive a Rubys Artists Grant for our upcoming exhibition, 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦. This solo exhibition has been developed over the last few years, we’ve collectively and individually been navigating our practices and its connections to home, healing, and hope. Our biggest show yet, birthed from nu works, expansion, having faith in the process. This is manifesting with our highest power 🚀 You know how we do with programming, how can you feel the spirit of Hope and Faith without being able to participate? “Chrysalis: In the Womb of the Great Mother” Honoring the changing of (my) seasons and the stillness that comes from autumn + winter (the dark womb/Great Mother) I created a fabric collage. Transitioning through the times of harvest and reflection, I find my inner and external worlds shaping to be places of true rest, holding me through my releases and renewal (some of which are pretty intense!). The chrysalis is the womb and my room in which I become again and again. I (finally) figured out what the Virgo brain needed for a structured and challenging yet fun outlet that I can grow in and doesn’t make me spiral into overthinking the final results and sewing is that!!!! I took @kehinde.llc ‘s Sewing class last fall and learned how to use a sewing machine!! Their guidance was patient and encouraging, helping us to create fabric collages to “imagine a new.” My ambitious self thought my design was too small for the predetermined 10” sized square (a pattern that comes up often in my work lol) so it grew…😵‍💫 it’s 16”x17” now 😅Didn’t know if I was gonna make it but I did! Finished the piece 11/1 with beaded pearls to resemble the coming of snow. Also depicted in my carousel (slides 8-11) is the @our.art.room.agency retreat at AYA House where I got reconnected with rest and left feeling so restored, cared for, and seen. Woke up on our departure day, 11/11, with a sketch (download) for @hopeandfaith.art ‘s upcoming solo show and SNOWWW :D It’s always so serendipitous to see my self reflected in the external world. 2025 was crucial in my remembering and coming home to self. I am blessed to have aligned with people like the folx in OARA and with opportunities like learning to sew to help guide me into dreaming big of my nu worlds being birthed. Nu Worlds where stillness and rest are prioritized, community embodies reciprocity, self is redefined and expanded, and creation becomes even more sacred. I welcome 2026 with a deep knowing and faith that I am and will always be in good hands. 🙌🏾 One Love :3 🥰😘 by @faiththerevenant
