Cultivating faith and work integration in the Bay Area to transform people who are transforming the world

That’s the pattern Paul Taylor names in the last episode. We reach for a tool to increase our agency and end up handing it away instead. In his words, we carry around these powerful computers, and yet we feel powerless.

AI is that same bargain with far more on the table. Employers will require it. Expectations will rise to meet it. More and more of the day gets handed off to something that acts on our behalf, in our name, while we’re doing something else.

Which drags an old question into the daylight:

When something acts in your name, who is responsible?

You can hand off a task. You can never hand off the answer you’ll have to give for it.

Project 1232 launches in two weeks.

BETTER TOGETHER.

One of the things we care about most at Christians in Tech is helping break down silos across the Church.

So for #SFTechWeek, we’re not doing this alone.

We’re grateful to be bringing together an incredible group of organizations serving Christians across technology, entrepreneurship, the workplace, ministry, and the Bay Area:

Faith, Work & Tech

Do Good

FaithTech

Faith and Work Movement

Connect Silicon Valley

KingdomHaus

Different organizations.

Different communities.

Different callings.

One Body.

On Monday morning, October 5, come meet the people behind these communities, learn what they’re building and serving, and find new ways to get connected.

And if you’ve been looking for Christian community in the Bay Area, this morning was built with you in mind.

☕ Coffee + pastries

🤝 New connections

🙏 Faith + work

What if the goal wasn’t to build another Christian silo,

but to help people discover the ones already doing incredible work?

That’s a big part of why we’re gathering during #SFTechWeek.

The Bay Area already has churches, ministries, founder communities, faith-and-work organizations, Bible studies, marketplace leaders, and people faithfully serving inside some of the world’s most influential companies.

But too often, we don’t know each other.

And the person looking for community doesn’t know where to start.

So on October 5, we’re creating one simple room where people can meet.

No big stage. No long presentations.

Just coffee, conversations, introductions, and a chance to discover what God is already doing throughout the Bay Area.

Our hope?

Someone finds their community.

A founder meets another believer who understands the road they’re on.

Two ministries that have been working separately start collaborating.

Someone who has been curious about Jesus realizes there’s a place for them in the conversation.

That feels like a morning worth creating.

📅 October 5 | 9:00–10:30 AM

MVP can deepen your relationship with God, revolutionize how you work with Jesus, and help you forge meaningful relationships with others who want to live integrated lives as followers of Jesus.

Of course, that raises the question: what is MVP?

The Bay Area Center for Faith, Work & Tech created MVP to transform people in the Bay Area who are transforming the world. By bringing together insights from working professionals in the Bay Area as well as local pastors, and curated content, MVP helps participants integrate aspects of life that may have been separated or compartmentalized. Typically, this leads to increased joy and a heightened sense of purpose!

Check out the carousel to get a sense of what MVP could bring to the table for you personally. Hop to the comments for the link to find out more or visit wvneighborhoodchurch.org/faith-and-work. A very short application will be due by October 1, and spots are limited, so if you're interested in finding out more, let's connect soon! @faithworktech taken in West Valley Neighborhood Church by @faithworktech

The hardest question in this whole series isn’t about sermons or software. It’s this one: if a lonely person talks to a chatbot late at night and it genuinely helps, who exactly is it hurting?

Paul Taylor’s answer, in Episode 4:

“AI can make you feel loved, but AI cannot love you — because it has nothing to lose.”

Real love is two free people who have decided to be affected by each other. It requires that you have something to lose. The cost isn’t a flaw in the arrangement. The cost is the whole point.

A machine can be endlessly patient with you. It can never be hurt by you. Those are not the same thing.

We owe them more than “don’t.” We owe them a real answer. Link in bio for more. by @faithworktech

This SF Tech Week, we’re bringing together Christians from across technology, startups, business, ministry, and the broader Bay Area faith-and-work ecosystem for a simple morning of coffee, community, and connection.

Hosted by Christians*inTech, FaithworkTech and Do Good, this gathering is designed to help the Body of Christ show up together during one of the biggest weeks in San Francisco tech.

And we’d love for your organization to be part of it.

We’re looking for churches, ministries, faith-and-work organizations, Christian communities, and mission-aligned groups to join us as official event partners.

As a partner, you’ll be invited to:

SHARE
Invite your community and help us spread the word.

SHOW UP
Have at least one representative join us on
October 5.

INTRODUCE YOUR MINISTRY
Share a quick 30–60 second introduction so attendees know who you serve and how to connect.

CONNECT
Bring a QR code, postcard, flyer, or simple resource so interested attendees can learn more.

BE FEATURED
Receive visibility through event communications, partner listings, social media, and post-event resources.

You’ll want to be in the room for this one.

On September 9th, we’re gathering in San Francisco for Faithful Leadership, an evening of dinner, meaningful conversation, and a fireside chat with tech founders and leaders on faith, work, leadership, and calling.

You’ll have the chance to connect with other emerging professionals in tech, hear from leaders who are navigating these questions in real life, and be part of the launch series for Vocare Collective.

And yes, we still have a seat for you at the table.

Join us in the Marina on September 9.

On a Zoom call earlier this year, Paul Taylor was asked by the other people on the call to prove he was a real person and not an AI-generated avatar.

He couldn’t. There was nothing he could do from his side of the screen to show them a human was actually there.

That’s going to be true of more and more of what we send each other. Email, text, video, chat — all of it fakeable, all of it soon.

Which means the things that can’t be faked are about to become the most valuable things we have. A handshake. A hug. A hospital room at six in the morning. Bread torn by hands, put into hands.

The church has been in that business the entire time. We just never had to name it as an advantage before.

Episode 3 is called Embodiment.

What happens when faith, humanity, and technology meet in the same room? Great conversation, meaningful connection, and, of course, pizza. 🍕

We’re so grateful for everyone who joined us at @tillageplace in San Francisco for our latest Vocare Collective gathering. Paul spoke on the 4AI Framework and invited us to think more deeply about the intersection of humanity and technology.

If you’re an early-career professional working in tech in the Bay Area, join us on September 9th for our next event: dinner and a fireside chat with tech leaders and founders, hosted in San Francisco.
